Preußischen Armee-Korps Generalstaff Dispatches 2019 Special Edition in Honor of Bill Peters

Opening Statments

This is a special edition in honor of our very own General der Kavallerie Wilhelm Prinz Peters von Dennewitz who announced he will be retiring from Our Glorious Prussian forces and the Club! Bill has provided many great games for the NWC's members to enjoy for close to 20 years! Bill has also been incredibly instrumental in the Club since it's early days. He is the founder of the Prussian Armee at the NWC and served as it's first Oberbefehlshaber, working with others to get the Armee going, which added a great amount to the early history & traditions of the Club.

This special edition has some of the final honors we can bestow upon Bill for his illustrious service!

"Pro Patria et Gloria"

Vorwärts meine Kinder! Mit Gott für König und Vaterland!

It is with great honour and privilege, in the name of the Honourable Generalfeldmarschall Scott Kronprinz "Vorwärts" Ludwig von Preußen, himself a servant of our revered König Friedrich Wilhelm III, sovereign of Prussia and protector of Germany, that the Königlich-Preußisches Armee-Korps offer a special promotion to General der Kavallerie Wilhelm Prinz Peters von Dennewitz for gallantry in the face of the enemy and for furthering the glory of Prussia. From this day forward, through special Königliche Dekrete (Royal Decree), upon his retirement from 21 years of highly dedicated service to the Napoleonic Wargame Club (NWC) and for an illustrious career & longstanding leadership in the Preußische Armee is hereby promoted to the rank of Generalfeldmarschall.

Mit Gott für König und Vaterland!

Verleihung von Auszeichnungen
(Presentation of Orders and Medals)

Bill Peters will be awarded the following medals for his service to the Prussian Armee & the Club:

Image

Königin Luise Orden
(Queen Louise Order)

Normally awarded for the capture, wounding or killing of Napoleon in a scenario the Kommandeur des Königlich-Preußischen Armee-Korps has deemed an exception and is instead awarding it to Bill in recognition of his service to the Club. It is also awarded for his 10 games made with John Tiller Software (JTS) including, in the spirit of Königin Luise, his fantastic coverage of the Befreiungskriege (Wars of Liberation) with Campaign Leipzig and Campaign Bautzen!

Image

Eisernes Kreuz GroßStern (Blücher Stern)
(Iron Cross Grand Star) (Blücher Star)

Normally awarded only to the current Prussian CoA with the rank of Generalfeldmarschall and over 2,000 points, it must be passed on upon the retirement of the CoA. The Kommandeur des Königlich-Preußischen Armee-Korps however has deemed an exception and is instead awarding it to Bill for his many years of leadership to the Preußische Armee and for his important service years ago in founding the Armee as well as serving as the Prussian CoA during the early years of the Club!

Image

Hohenzollern-Ritterorden
(Hohenzollern Knight Order)

Awarded to Prussian Officers for more than outstanding service to the Prussian Armee.

Unit in Order of Battle Named in Honor of Bill:

Bill has always been proud of his service with the Prussian Armee & always interested in the history of the Prussian forces during the Napoleonic Wars. He's shared a lot of his knowledge & sources over the years. In partciular he's mentioned Dr. Stephen Summerfield's books on the Prussian Armee. Bill's said he really liked the irregular units that were formed during 1813 and he loved all of the images him & his team had to find for the 1813-14 games. In honor of his support of the Prussian Armee both in the Club & in research a unit has been added to the Königlich-Preußisches Armee-Korps Order of Battle:

3. Husaren-Regiment (Brandenburgisches-Fürst von Peters)

The Prinz von Dennewitz himself has been appointed to this regiment for his retirement as the regiment's Colonel-in-Chief. A special Königliche Dekrete (Royal Decree) has been issued for Bill's appointment. The unit can be viewed in the OOB here.

Honors at the East Prussian Hunting Lodge (Ostpreußen Jagdschloss):

One of Bill's many ongoing jokes in the Club and in particular the Prussian Armee was about the East Prussian Hunting Lodge (Ostpreußen Jagdschloss). He used it originally with Oberbefehlshaber Stefan Reuter (Generalfeldmarschall Stefan GroßPrinz Reuter von Wahlstadt) and continued to use with it me & others in many posts. Over the years, through many victories, the Prussian Armee has accumulated a lot of French gold and with it we've been able to commission not only a "workable" design for the symbol of the East Prussian Hunting Lodge but also build a fine addition to it for a dining hall & wargaming room. This room will be named the Wilhelm Peters Denkmal Raum and will feature a lemonade fountain, all you can eat German potato salad (along with baked, sweet or mashed potatoes) & a collection of fantastic memoirs and books we discovered in Bill's library:

"Reuter on the Rhine: Leading the Heer am Niederrhein"

"Prince Eugène's Sing-a-Long Songs & More"

"The Nelms & Sir Muddy (and their Horses) Guide to Winning with a Hedonator in Hand"

A TV show script Bill wrote for "Munition Waggon 54 Wo bist du?!?"

A small pamphlet by Bill titled "Outhouse Manifesto: An Orderly's Guide to Cleaning the Rhine Tavern and it's Latrines After Sir Muddy's Horse Has Been About"

A lost copy of "The Full Barrett"

The lost blueprints for the Lodge

General-Feldmarshal Eugene (Jeka) Gulyaev's book "How to Master the MOE"

Another book by Bill called "Trafalgar or Bust! A History of the NWC's Naval Branch"

Various guides, maps, writings and orders from Maréchal's Corbin, Jensen, Paco Palomo & Bardon (including a book by Paco, with content by Andy Moss titled "On Campaign Making with Bill Peters" that appears to have been started well over 15 years old)

Al Amos' "The Postal Campaign: A Guide to Making Napoleonic Courier Routes"

An unpublished manuscript by Bill apparently about me titled "Ich Dien-ing to Eat: An Autobiographical Self Help for When Mein Kommandeur Herr Alte Windbagenführer Writes or Gives a Long Speech and You're Hungry"

Another book caled "The Untold Austrian Tales of the Time Bill Peters Took the Armee on a Field Trip" by Feldmarschall Pfluecke & Feldmarschall McClellan

And finally a random copy of "Idaho Potato Monthly" with a mailing address from Ernie Sands!

With this said I am happy to unveil the new symbol of the East Prussian Hunting Lodge (Ostpreußen Jagdschloss):

Closing Notes:

Even with Bill departing from the Club, he leaves behind a great legacy both in the NWC and with the games! He leaves behind 10 of the 14 games in the JTS Napoleonic series that have come to form the cornerstone of the Club and has given us countless hours of fun. He has also been a significant part of the Club's history both in his personal participation in leadership & Club life, leaving a great legacy of topics and conversation on the forums as well as his active leadership seen throughout the Club's pages, to his engagements on the many battlefields of the Napoleonic Wars! He has played many members of the Club and has always been willing to provide suggestions, advice and help with the games regardless of whether it was a training game or not. We'll certainly miss Bill's humor, insight and participation but know that he'll be around and still making great games, just for a different era of warfare!

His record has been enshrined in the Preußische Armee Ruhmeshalle (Valhalla) with his Royal Title of Prinz von Dennewitz being retired from use.

Thanks for the friendship & the many great memories Bill!

(Be sure to visit from time to time)

Thank you on behalf of the Command,
