Since the ability to use shore data was added with Guadalcanal and the other two games in the series were retrofitted with this feature, is there any chance that HPS might come out with an update that included a few landmasses for these games? (Assuming no map editor for users to create their own is forthcoming.)

Tsushima could use the area around Port Arthur and perhaps some coastline or small isles (Yodolmi Is - action off Chmulpo, etc).

Jutland could use some of the coast of England (for raid scenarios, or a meeting engagement close to the coast) or the northern shores of Germany/Netherlands.

It really could blow some life into the series.

The Phillipines would be nice for Guad and Tsushi.

Going on a vacation for about a week, but can I get back to you on that?

In regards to clean images of the areas, I think I could probably find something....

As a follow up, if someone has some good clean images of these areas that could be used as a base, please send them my way.

So are these the only things, are there other specifics you would like to see?

Oh and I thought that elevation/land would be similar to the other HPS maps. It is not. I don't see the pattern, yet...

I do see it now. Just had to change my monitor settings.

Land = 0
Water = 1-9 Al numbers are used in a concentric band. I have no idea what that means...

"In the file, a distance of 1000 yards must be equal to 100 pixels. In other words, each nautical mile on the chart must equal 200 pixels."

Thanks, I didn't see that. It is however refering to the overlays rather than the map. (You can put overlays in Guad as well. From the file menu.) Good news is the scale should be the same.

If you copy the 4 x shore*.* files and drop them in Guad, you can game a hypothetical engagement between Russians and Japanese off Savo island.

As far as I could tell, the difference in pdt's only relates to radar.

Mike,

I would guess WWII Navy maps are the source. The scale for overlays is 100 pixels per thousand yards. I bet the shore50.bmp file is as well. In the scenario editor help files is an explination on how to build the overlay.bmp files.

I have Tshushima now, and find the game very interesting. I would love to get land masses into the game. There is a check box for them in the scenario editor, but it is greyed out. I presume information in the pdt file would unlock that box. I recommend for those who have Tsushi and Guad to examine the two pdt files and see if there is something that looks like it might do that.

Try dropping the Guad files specific to landmasses into Tsushi or Jutland and see what happens.

Please let me know the results.

The Shore50.bmp is 4218 x 4268 pixels
The shore.dat has the following values in line 2: 4218 4268
The shore.dat lines of data are 4218 values long
I would be willing to bet there are 4268 lines of data.

So my question is:
What is the scale of the shore50.bmp? a 1:50,000 map by any chance? Better yet, what was the source? Any guesses there?

Doable with a little bit of work. Or not. At this point I have not been able to sort the map values out.
