Cedar Mountain - August 9, 1862

The Battle of Cedar Mountain between Major General Thomas J. Jackson and Major General Nathaniel P. Banks.

On August 9 Jackson thought he saw an opportunity to assail part of Gen. Pope's army near Culpeper Court House on the rolling farm fields at the base of Cedar Mountain. Jackson attempted to hurl his force of nearly 22,000 against the separated Union 2nd Corps of 12,000.
