Staying in Touch with Brigade Commanders

The very building blocks of our Armies are the Brigades. No Brigades means no Divisions, no Corps, no Armies and ultimately no club. As such, record keeping becomes a vital part of the function of each Army and CSA Headquarters. However, it all starts at the Division level. As for my own Division, we have a common muster form used by all Brigade Commanders. Its header depicts our Divisional or the Brigade battle flag. The Brigade number and Brigade Commanders rank and name also appear on the form along with fill-ins for the necessary information due at muster.

When a new Brigade Commander joins your Division, send a letter of welcome and offer your support and assistance. Also have the Officers fellow Brigade Commanders do the same. Encourage your Brigade Commanders to come up with a name and or battle flag for their Brigade and see to it that they get posted on the Army site. This will build a sense of pride, morale and Esprit de’ Corps.

I believe it is just as important for the Brigade Commanders to stay in touch with each other as it is for the Division Commander to do so. One way to encourage this type of dialog is to share war stories with each other. The retelling of ones exploits upon the field of honour against our common foe round about the camp fire as it were which, may also prove to be a good method of picking up some intelligence as well as tactical information. Another method of keeping in touch with your Brigade Commanders is through the use of manoeuvres which can be especially important for those individuals new to the field. Along these same lines, you can build team spirit by going into a multiplayer battle as a Divisional unit wherein you can conduct battle strategy sessions with all Commanders pitching forth their ideas.

Be creative, build unit pride, invite your Brigade Commanders to the local watering hole and buy them a round! But, get your Division involved within its self and by all means get those lines of communication open!
A great club starts with great people and for the ACWGC it all begins with our Brigade Commanders.
