On May 3, 1755, the 2nd Battalion of the Regiment de la Reine, commanded by Lt. Col. Jean-George Dejean de Roqumaure, left Rochefort, France with the 2nd battalions of five other regiments (Artois, Bourgogne, Languedoc, Guyenne, and Béarn) bound for New France, all under the command of Baron Jean-Armand Dieskau (Montcalm's predecessor). The ship of the line Lys (64), carrying 4 companies of la Reine and 4 companies of Languedoc, was captured by the British off Newfoundland. The battalions of Artois and Bourgogne were sent to Louisbourg, and the remainder of the force disembarked at Québec. La Reine then went to Fort St. Frédéric (Crown Point) and Fort Carillon (Ticonderoga) and participated in the Battle of Lake George before overwintering in Montréal. In 1756 and 1757 the battalion was stationed at Carillon, and was part of Montcalm's force that besieged and captured Fort William Henry in 1757. In 1758 the battalion helped defeat Roger's Rangers in the Battle of Snowshoes, helped slow the British advance from Lake George towards Carillon, and formed the extreme right flank of Montcalm's line at the Battle of Carillon. In 1759 the battalion helped slow Amherst's advance up Lake Champlain and, after Montcalm's loss at Québec, retreated to Montréal for the winter. In 1760 the battalion participated in the Battle of Sainte-Foy before surrendering with the remaining French forces in September.
