It appears I have been promoted once more against my wishes. I had just gotten used to the rank of Captain when this confounded courier arrived with a new set of orders for me.

MAJOR?!

Little did I imagine when I whipped those cowardly Yanks in battle that it would mean such nonsense as this. Back home if we beat such opponents as these the family name would be scandalized as it was considered beneath one to fight with such lowly cusses. Yet in this here Army I am promoted. Will wonders never cease?

I learned to dance when I hit Captain and I understand cigar smoking is now in order for this new rank. I was always a pipe man but I reckon I can adjust.

Drinkin' proper wine comes with the next rank and when you get to Colonel....using a linen napkin with meals! :shock: :? :) That was a hard one for me! :mrgreen:

Smoking a pipe is considered by some to be more of a Northern vice, where as smoking a cigar is considered by all to be a Southern virtue. To assist you in your transition to Major I have dispatched a full case of the finest Cuba has to offer. They have been proscribed by the CSA Surgeon General as a health enhancer when consumed at a rate of more than six per day. So step up to the bar, light up and drink up :mrgreen:
