As a relatively new member of the ACWGC I am interested in advice from my fellow gamers in grey. I have played several scenarios from different games with similar results: defeat! I sustain significantly higher casualties from artillery and infantry fire than my opponents. I also seem to lose the initiative far too soon in the game. I could use some tactical advice to help me win a few for our team. |

I think a lot of it depends on multiple factors. I am newer and working out some of these issues myself. |

Playing opponents with over 250 engagements is not recommended if you want to have an occasional win. Play opponents with similar won/lost if possible, till you become better at your craft. Remember......You are a beginner, you should be playing opponents with the same level of experience. Meeting engagements are usually the most balanced scenarios. Playing someone with lots of experience usually means he has played the scenario before.....that will give him an advantage. |

General Korotko <salute> Suh, you seem to have forgotten the AotS "Fall Offensive" last year. I'll provide you a snippet from one of our reports to refresh your memory: "The AotS conceeded the contest some time back, however there are still battles ongoing. The latest battle to be completed was today, a Major Victory for our forces! The score now is 9 victories, 4 draws, and 1 defeat with 2 battles still in progress. General Ringbloom has vowed revenge this autumn,........" Seems we never did hear from General Ringbloom about his "revenge". Ahem! There is a blue suit in my closet, but I cannot resist a comment or two. I have the same problem. He shoots, I lose 30 men; I shoot, and maybe get a fatigue hit, or one or two of his men if I am way lucky! But I have experienced some wins lately because my adversaries have tended to fight themselves out of a winning situation, only because they want to follow a strategy different from that followed in the original production. I would suggest you read a little about the battle, and try to see what the winning strategy was, and don't be afraid to copy it. Also, don't be passive. General Koch <salute> Suh, my compliments! I was simply offering a reminder to General Korotko after his rambling about throwing down our arms and such. I would likely have simply observed had he directed his comments specifically at the gentlemen of the Army of Alabama. This was not the case, and I was inclined to reply. What General Lee and Jefferson Davis were saying in 1864 is irrelevant, your last encounter against the Army of the Mississippi was a disaster. The previous encounter against Gator Alley in the "Gator Challenge" was only marginally better, and we're currently kicking the tar out of General Fantini's team in "Gator Vengeance" to atone for the lone defeat suffered there. If you boys want to try and regain some semblance of honor, bring it to the Natchez Trace Tavern and we'll see what might be arranged for the new year. Highest regards, |
