Post subject:  New Book from Jeff Shaara

<font face="Andale Mono"><font size="4"><font color="pink">Gentlemen! <salute>

I made my usual trip to Costco today. As always I preview the book selection looking for my favorite authors. Well to my surprise I came upon a new book by Jeff Shaara called "<b><font color="beige">The Rising Tide</font id="beige"></b>" which is a novel of WWII! I thoroughly enjoyed his last effort about the American Expeditionary forces in France during WWI! I will be starting it tonight!

<font color="beige">Just an update, I've completed reading the book and it was just great! It now has my interest in a little more research on the Campaigns themselves.

I have now started another book that has received a lot of attention in the past few months: <b>Flags of Our Fathers!</b> Wow! I am just 35 pages into it and I can't believe how good the writing is!

The Author and his family made a visit to Iwo Jima in the airplane of the Commandant of the Marine Corps (who was with them). This I didn't know, but since the Island is again part of Japan, it is garrisoned by their military and you must receive permission to visit the Island. It is not opened to regular tourist visitation!</font id="beige">

<font face="Andale Mono"><font size="4">Jon,

The answer is a BIG NO! What I have started to do is try and give myself about an hour before bedtime to get some reading done. It is enjoyable and helps to complete the relaxation process before nighty night!

Did you know that one of the 6 Flag Raisers was from your neck of the woods? Rene Gagnon, who's parents were French Canadian, was born and rasied in Manchester, New Hampshire. Seems his family was in on the big textile boon and bust of the late '20's and '30's. The book describes the huge Corporate complex where they lived and worked. Can you tell me, is there any of that left in Manchester?

Regards,
