Why, if you are in campaign mode, do some units start fixed? Should not, in a campaign, you have some "free will"? Sure historical situations can happen, but shouldn't the battles give you a situation and let you take if from there? In Atlanta there is an option to just fight all the historical battles, but... Actually, I guess I'm mostly talking about Chickamauga, the first three battles so far, Perryville, Murfreesburo and Chickamauga... Thoughts?? Col Thompson 1/3/VI AoS |

I have to agree with Pat. If I am suppose to be the commanding general in a campaign why would my units be fixed. In campaign mode all battles should in effect be a meeting engagement. With campaign battles having fixed units we are to a degree limited to the historical version of events i.e. Murfreesboro – the CSA can only attack the Union right, because most of the rebel army is fixed. Can this be an option that is selected at the start of a Campaign: fixed or not fixed Lt Col Cam McOmish Lone Star Brigade Smith’s Texas Division King Cotton Corps (1/1/1) CSA |

Hi, You can blame it on the game designer, I guess, but we each have our own theories on game design. The beauty of the HPS games is that you can design your own campaigns using your own battles. Just can't change the terrain. Or if you are satisfied with the battles but want the units unfixed, just go to each battle in the campaign tree and unfix all the units before you start playing. I am lazy and so trust the game designer has done his homework and provided me with a fairly balanced campaign. If that requires fixed units, so be it. MG Mike Mihalik 1/III/AoMiss/CSA |
