Not because we've experienced two earthquakes yesterday and today, just because we're Oklahoma. [:p] MG Al "Ambushed" Amos, Commanding Officer 4th "Amos' Ambushers" Bde, 1st Div, XX Corps, AoC, USA |

I'm sorry Al its difficult for us Californians to sympathize with Okiequakes ( I think I just invented a new word). We had one just the other day, 5.4 and it hardly woke us up. MG Drex Ringbloom, Cdr, 2nd Div "Corcoran's Legion", VIII Corps Army of the Shenandoah ![]() |

"Okiequakes" I love it![:D] They don't shake me as much as our politicians do, but then again we don't have the lovely Nancy Pelosie. So I guess you California Bears do have more troubles than us Oklahoma Sooners! [:p] MG Al "Ambushed" Amos, Commanding Officer 4th "Amos' Ambushers" Bde, 1st Div, XX Corps, AoC, USA |

A Texas buddy of mine in the Navy once told me, that the only reason Texas doesn't fall into the Gulf is because Oklahoma draws a vacuum [:D]. On the History Channel was a program about earthquakes in the Mid West that happened in the early 1800's. Where if it happened today millions of people would be effected like whats going on in Haiti's Respectfully, Lt. Gen. Gen. Bastiani, Yeah the fault line is near St Louis. When it hit it caused the Mississippi to reverse its course. Had that happened in 1863 Grant may have a tougher time taking Vicksburg! [:D] MG Al "Ambushed" Amos, Commanding Officer 4th "Amos' Ambushers" Bde, 1st Div, XX Corps, AoC, USA |

Yeah, between St. Louis and Memphis. They were saying that the bridges that cross the Mississippi would cut any and all traffic east and west. Back in the 1812 I think was when it hit there weren't very many people living in the area and those that were stayed outside living under the stars or in tents for months after-wards and their not sure on how many deaths there was since the area was sparsely inhabited Respectfully, Lt. Here is the wiki article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1812_New_Madrid_earthquake If that quake hit today, it would be the worst in US history The zone remains active today. In recent decades minor earthquakes have continued.[5] New forecasts estimate a 7 to 10 percent chance, in the next 50 years, of a repeat of a major earthquake like those that occurred in 1811-1812, which likely had magnitudes of between 7.5 and 8.0. There is a 25 to 40 percent chance, in a 50-year time span, of a magnitude 6.0 or greater earthquake.[7] Understanding of this earthquake zone is growing slowly in comparison to awareness of the San Andreas fault.
