I just experienced two situations in the same game (Peninsula Campaign):
1) I had some cannon thst were csptured but I was able to melee and get them back. Now I knew they would be uncrewed but I was astounded to see that they were 'disrupted". Now I know man tends to apply human emotions to inanimate objects but i was wondering what this "disruption" represented and do I have to move a leader to the cannon to rally the tubes to the cause?
2) I had been using cannonade continuously along my front lines as I was successfully getting gun hits. But there were many cannon that were never fired, yet on one turn ALL my cannon ran out of ammo. I have enough supply wagons to resupply but still, cannon that haven't been fired should have full caissons.
Has anyone experienced these wierd happenings?

Drex,

Arty ammo is not from the wagons. In the unit info box, I keep mine on the right side, you will see you army arty ammo level. Once it hits Zero your guns are silent.

I should have known that.My misfortune, but what did amaze me was that guns that had never been used before also fall silent. That didn't sound right.

You're right, silent guns just don't sound right! [:D]

They are disrupted from the initial melee that captured them. It takes time to recrew, etc and get them operational AND the units that do recrew them (from either side) are NOT artillerymen and the effectiveness is lessened.

On AMMO, if you had used the optional rule "Artillery ammo by cannon", I THINK, all artillery ammo would NOT run out at once. I am NOT positive about that, however.

Thanks. Ernie. I 'll check out that option and the explanation of disruption makes sense in that context.

Hi,
I'm pretty sure once the ammo runs out for artillery, it is gone. Only two ways I know of to get more artillery ammo; get artillery reinforcements, or capture the enemy's guns. Otherwise your guns are silent for the duration of the scenario.

The ammo by tube option, as far as I know, only changes ammo expenditure from one round/unit to one round/cannon. It is a more realistic option, as without it a one-gun section uses the same amount of ammo as a six-gun battery.

Personally, I have never liked the ammo pool concept. I would rather batteries run out of ammo and get replenished like the infantry does. Actually, I would REALLY prefer both infantry and artillery units have an ammo allotment per unit that can be replenished from supply wagons when that unit runs out.

We have this discussion at least once a year.
Of course, you're a Yankee, because most scenarios have this problem for rebels.

I and others have offered solutions, but we still have the "great cosmic artillery ammo depots" in the sky.
You may find these archived threads informative as some go 4 pages of discussions.

I also recommend that you put "artillery supply" into the "Search" function on this site and check the box for archives. More than you will ever read...[;)]
