Gentlemen of the ACWGC the above invitation is extended to all officers. The younger officers will be pleased to know that I have secured the attendance of the senior class from Miss Delainey's Finishing School for Young Ladies, so the fair sex will be well represented. However young officers and even older officers need to be aware that the young ladies have had extensive training in the taking and defending of Breast Works.

There are also a number of issues I would like attending officers to be aware of:
1. No guns, knives, swords or explosives in the Town Hall
2. Given the fracas that occurred last year there will be no hard liquor served after 2300 hrs
3. Given that the young ladies from Miss Delaney’s will be on the lookout for perspective husbands – the Western Command takes no responsibility what so ever for unsuitable marriages
4. No pets in the Town Hall – alligators are exempt
5. No tall hats
6. Please ensure that if you are being accompanied by a lady that her dress covers her ankles – given that it is CSA/USA ball there will be enough elevated blood pressure
7. No line dancing

I would strongly urge the younger officers to refrain from any stunts, last year two drunken Army of Georgia junior officers tried to bring a 12 Pounder Napoleon into the hall, just not cricket gentlemen

This is a most welcome invitation for us officers wearing the blue, as we've had little occasion this past year to see Rebel officers actually celebrating! More often than not its been our experience to be the recipients of sullen termination bids. But be that as it may, I, for one, look forward to the chance in liberally sampling the fine Southern libations that are sure to be overflowing in the punch bowls lining the sides of the hall, and to watch the colorful gala of comely Southron belles swirling about the dance floor with their beaus to the salubrious strains of General Bastiani's magnificent band.

However, I must at least attempt to raise some mild objection to the inclusion of pet alligators, especially that particular one that goes about proudly displaying the shredded remnants of blue uniforms between his teeth. This "Nicodemus" beast needs be restricted from attending in some acceptable manner. Failing in that, we would like to at least offer the use of a steel muzzle we've designed for exactly this purpose. (We'll also bring along a good fresh supply of Glouster Old Spot pork from some of our best Northeastern piggeries to satiate him prior to the festivities and to dispell any notions he may harbor as to having his feeling neglected!)

Major General McOmish,
Cam,

I am very excited about the upcoming Western Theater Spring Ball!

Please let it be known that I and my darling wife will be in attendance! <salute>

I am also very excited to see the invitation extended to our fine Yankee counterparts. Most generally I find them to be the most refined of gentlemen and at other times I find them to be quite amusing. I mean the mere thought of Lt General Hodgkiss brings a big grin to my face! [;)]

And look... even General Meyer is making funnies about sullen termination bids! LOL! I must laugh as I was thinking the very same thing about them. Why March has been a very good month on the battlefield for myself and the Army of the Mississippi! Just look at the new additions to our collection of trophies!

Image

So yes Sir... I am most excited about the Spring Ball. It will give me an opportunity to see some of these fine Yankee Officer's in the person and see whose head might be the next one added to my collection! I hear that Lt General Thompson has a particularly large skull... now that might be quite the trophy indeed! [:p]

Supper at 2100? We're gonna hoe down before we get all greased up? Gentlemen, make sure that you tape down your miniature medals so that you don't hurt yourself nor your partner during the hoe down. We'll bring some extra rolls of tape just in case our Confederate hosts didn't get any through the blockade.

I also don't see a menu selection. Being Vicksburg, the main course ain't rats and mules, is it? For those Confederates who need a ride, the Sultana will pick you up at any dock between Memphis and Vicksburg. The more the merrier!

If General McOmish's widowed sister is attending, I'll be there with spit shined boots, cleaned and pressed uniform, slicked back hair what's left of it anyway[:D]. Hope there will be some good BBQ, Whiskey, and good company [:)]

Beware fellow Yankees! This could be some devious trick to ensnare unsuspecting Union soldiers. Well I bet that Miss Delaney's girls graduated from VMI and have hair on their legs!

General Ringbloom, I would suggest that the young ladies from Miss Delaney's would be shocked an appalled by your comments. I think you should man up, attend the ball and do your own investigations into the subject. I have contacted your OC and we have agreed that you must submitt a post ball report on the subject.

As to the issue of being ensnared the only dangers you will face are those of young ladies looking for Husbands[8D]

Sir, my compliments!

Nicodemus will be attending, although he was disheartened to learn that his offer to escort Miss McOmish had been declined by General McOmish. It seems that the blood spatter from the last event where a young Yankee lieutenant was "disarmed" after accosting Miss McOmish caused some stains which were the dickins to remove from her dress.

Nicodemus will be on his best behavior, however your offer of hams does ensure your horses will still be there when the gathering is over [:D]

Sorry the band name on the invites was slightly wrong - the last time I saw your band in action I had s few too many beers onboard. At the ball can your guys refrain from doing a Who impression and smashing their instruments, until after 0100 hrs[:p]

Cam,
Ok on the Who rendition, but how about something like Jethro Tull. Got to see him in Christchurch back in the early 80's while passing through NZ from McMurdo Station to California while in the Navy

Gentlemen,

I should like to introduce Isabel Fleming of Louisville, Kentucky, who will be accompanying me to the Western Theater Spring Ball. Miss Fleming and I go back some way, she having advertised her lucrative business in my late newspaper, the Nashville Sentinel, before I was forced to leave that city in the Bar Room Brawl II Tournament by the rowdy gang that calls itself the Army of Georgia!

Image

Miss Fleming has consented to wearing an evening gown that will adequately cover her ankles, which you see are adequately covered in this cameo of her. She has asked me if it would be proper for her to distribute her business cards while attending the ball.
