I've noticed reinforcements don't always show up on time and a asterick will be next to their time after they don't show up. Then it's anyone's guess when they will finnally appear. Anyone know why? |

That is because they have a variable entry. In a PBEM game you won't see the entry percentage and have to pray for good die rolls. The asterisk just indicates that they are delayed. |

If you open a scenario with the editor and look at Units Scheduled menu you'll see something like 4:00 PM November 15, 1862 [20%] at [52,167] Union Brig Gen J. McArthuer ... The 20% is the chance the unit will arrive. Beginning with the turn indicated and on each subsequent turn a random number between 1 and 100 is generated, if it is less than the % indicated the unit arrives, if not the process repeats each turn until the unit arrives or the game ends but the % remains the same. More than once I have had such units fail to arrive for the whole battle. |

Thanks for the info. Meanwhile, the reinforcements don't show up, the meager remaining troops get wiped out or run out of the battle. It doesn't make for a good game. |

You could be right, depending on the scenario; but it does try to add a little historical uncertainty, which can add to the suspense. Actually, you don't have to go into the scenario editor to find out the percentages, just load the scenario under new, normal. But you can use the editor to change the percentages, so if you want to play any scenario without the uncertainty of variable reinforcement times, just go in and change all the percentages to 100%. I recommend you save under a different name, though, and clear it with your opponent before you start playing. |

Variable entries can sure take the starch out of someone. I remember (battle tale) commanding II Corps in a battle with Roger Hulinsky at Gettysburg where our reinforcements were so delayed (how delayed were they?) that Roger ran away with the cavalry and left me to my fate against 4 Yankee corps. I don't like the variable entry scenarios; give me something where I can at least count on help ![]() |
