Gen. Kennon Whitehead's 1st Marine Brigade of the AotM held a formal parade last week for the new Marines who were graduating from boot camp and joining the esteemed unit. As the men stood at attention Gen. Strickler began his speech to the families and men gathered before him. A young Private waved into the crowd and Gen. Whitehead immediately glared at the Private who went back to attention. Once more the soldier waved and Whitehead began to swear under his breath. Minutes later the Private repeated the wave and Whitehead clinched his fists and waited for the speech to end. When the men were dismissed the General quickly made a line for the Private and got directly into his face. "What on God's green Earth made you think I didnt see you, Marine!? Do You know what I am going to do to you?!" he shouted. "My mother, sir! She is in the stands and she outranks you, sir!" the Marine matter-of-factly replied. Whitehead turned and walked away. |
