A handshake and shared memories...as with these two Gettysburg veterans at the 50th memorial of that great battle. ![]() <salute!> |

Cam would have the stronger grip, of course. He'd have General Blake saying "calf-rope" before the handshake ended. But seriously, a very fine picture. Thanks for sharing. <Salute> |

The Union soldier has taken his hat off as a sign of respect. The Confederate soldier has his arm over the other's shoulder as a sign they are compatriots now. Was there ever a war fought as bitterly where the readiness to heal and mend fences was so magnificent? |

"readiness to heal and mend fences..." Yes, whatever happened to that? There seems to be more bitterness and animosity now than there was then. John LTC 2/20th |

Of whatever do you speak? Union officers I've played with have been competent, thoughtful, and considerate - officers worthy of the uniform they wear. Now as far as rebels go, we wear our passion on our sleeve. Best not to ruffle our feathers - we're more likely to duke it out than talk it over. But after the scrap the issue will be forgotten - we'll move on to more serious issues like what's for dinner. |

I reckon I should have been clearer of that about which I speak. I meant in the greater world, the controversies about Confederate flags, and Stone Mountain, and a dozen other questions that were answered 150 years ago. "What's for dinner?" is one of the age-old questions that will always be asked, because it is, indeed, an eternally serious issue! |
