Post subject: | State of the Cabinet |
State of the Cabinet September 2013 As Cabinet President I intend to make a post regarding the work of the cabinet every few months. Having been elected in April it’s been a bit more than a few, but a busy summer is just now winding down and it’s about time I made a post. There were several outstanding issues in the pipe line when I took over and these were first on the agenda. There were Legion of Merit Award nominations for Gen. Simms and Gen. Kunz, these were discussed, voted on and awarded. Second was a revamping of the Cabinet Business Forums to help make work within the cabinet go a bit smoother. The cabinet members hale from the U.S. east and west coasts, mid west as well as Australia and Europe so it’s nearly impossible to schedule a time to “meet” so meetings take place within these forums over a period of days or weeks. These forums were a fairly new method for the cabinet to communicate and work as previously all cabinet business was done via e-mail. Several cabinet members had suggestions to improve the work flow and these were discussed and new layouts and methods were settled on and passed by a majority vote. The new Cabinet Forums layout and the intent of each; Section 1.) Promotions CoA's Will Please Post Their Proposed Promotions in this Forum Only. Section 2.) General Cabinet Notes For Cabinet Member notes and information not dealing with official cabinet business. Section 3.) Proposals Proposals submitted by Cabinet or Club Members petitioning the cabinet regarding rules disputes or other items requiring the cabinets attention. Each submitted proposal must be seconded by two members of the Cabinet in order to become an agenda item, it will then be assigned an Agenda Number and moved to Section 4.) Agenda, by the Cabinet President. The use of two seconds to validate a proposal to move onto the Agenda was a new method that I suggested in order to avoid the cabinet having to deal with proposals that could not garner enough interest from more than one cabinet member, as the cabinet sometimes moves slowly due to it’s method of “holding meetings” this seemed the best way to avoid having to discuss whether a proposal had enough merit to move forward, if two members felt it did then it would move forward. Section 4.) Agenda All Seconded and Approved Proposals which have been assigned an Agenda Number. All are Locked until moved to Section 5.) On the Table by the President. Section 5.) On the Table Current Approved Proposals on the Table, as decided by the President, will be discussed in this Forum. Please confine remarks to the issue currently on the table. Section 6.) Voting Booth One item at a time will be placed for vote by the President. Normally the Voting Booth will be open for 14 days per vote, but early voting is encouraged. Voters may state their reasons for voting a certain way when they cast their vote but they should not seek to engage in debate nor seek clarification in the Voting Booth. A vote may be cast as YES, NO or ABSTAIN Section 7.) Club Elections Sub-forum for all business relating to the conduction of ACWGC elections. Section 8.) Administration Information on Forum Management is Stored Here So far this new system has worked well, of course as we continue to work out the kinks there may be changes and improvements made. There have been some ongoing discussions on possible changes to specific rules, one of which will be coming up for membership wide vote soon. In June we had a matter of member discipline that was brought before the Cabinet, the case was reviewed and disciplinary action was passed by a unanimous cabinet vote. A proposal to create a memorial page for members that have passed away was suggested to the Cabinet by Lt. Gen. Boyd Denner and further submitted by Brig Gen David (Deno) Martin. The proposal was discussed and passed by the Cabinet. Gen. Nick Kunz was kind enough to design and maintain the page which thanks to Gen. Pierre Desruisseaux can be linked to from the main forum header. If someone that you know of is not listed on this page please contact the cabinet with the members name and details as you know them. The Cabinet is here to serve the membership, please feel free to contact any or all the Cabinet members with concerns or ideas to improve our collective enjoyment of the ACWGC. You can use the Contact the ACWGC Cabinet link on the DoR main page or by posting on the Questions for the Cabinet, Ideas, Suggestions page in the ACWGC forums. |
