23. Marching is one of the least publicized tactics of war. Gen Forrest was correct in his assessment of getting there the fustest with the mostest. Marching isn’t always an easy movement. There can be curves so sharp that it behooves you (saves movement points) to cut across a field instead of staying on the road. Some units travel further than others and those slower units should stay out of the way so that the faster units can utilize all of their movement points instead of wasting them in line behind slower units or having to waste movement points moving through slower units. Marching can require some thought, like having Gen Patton (yourself) at an intersection directing traffic. In the end, beating your opponent to the battlefield sometimes even by one hex, or just getting that one additional unit to the fight (instead of them being slowed down in the midst of slower units), can be the difference between victory and defeat. |
