Good evening Gentlemen,

I'm a new new German recruit for the Union army, "fresh off the boat", willing to fight with Sigel (or without him). I first came into contact with online wargaming during the late 90s with Talonsoft's BG series (mainly the Napoleonic titles) and want to give it a new try now with the WDS ACW titles. I started playing them against the AI around six months ago but have not yet played against a human opponent.

I'm looking forward to get to know you guys a bit better.

Welcome Stefan,

You've come to the right place and you joined the right army! You will enjoy many hours of good fun here with good folks both Blue and Gray. You will soon be enrolled in a Union Army and receive some basic training. The Confederate General-in-Chief, Blake, is a great guy who runs quarterly tournaments. They are always balanced and challenging. Be sure to get involved in them.

I met him again, he was trudging along,
His knapsack with chickens was swelling;
He'd "Blenkered" these dainties, and thought it no wrong,
From some secessionist's dwelling.
"What regiment's yours? and under whose flag
Do you fight?" said I, touching his shoulder;
Turning slowly around, he smilingly said,
For the thought made him stronger and bolder;
"I fights mit Sigel."

The next time I saw him his knapsack was gone,
His cap and canteen were missing;
Shell, shrapnel, and grape, and the swift rifle ball
Around him and o'er him were hissing.
How are you, my friend, and where have you been,
And for what and for whom are you fighting?
He said, as a shell from the enemy's gun
Sent his arm and his musket 'a-kiting,"
"I fights mit Sigel."

And once more I saw him and knelt by his side,
His life blood was rapidly flowing;
I whispered of home, wife, children, and friends,
The bright land to which he was going;
And have you no word for the dear ones at home,
The "wee one," the father or mother?
"Yaw! yawl" said he, "tell them! Oh! tell them I fights"-
Poor fellow he thought of no other—
"I fights mit Sigel."

We scraped out a grave, and he dreamlessly sleeps
On the banks of the Shenandoah River;
His home and his kindred alike are unknown,
His reward in the hands of the Giver.
We placed a rough board at the head of his grave,
"And we left him alone in his glory,"
But on it we marked ere we turned from the spot,
The little we knew of his story—
"I fights mit Sigel."

Cadet Brandl, <Salute>

Stefan, glad to have you with us!

Not sure if you remember me, but you may recall some 15-20 years ago the former International Napoleonics Wargaming Club (iNWC) or Battleground Club that was started by Tom Lachenmaier? I used to help run the club with a couple of other members.

You will certainly be well taught by the fine training staff here! The games are a lot of fun. 8)

If you happen to want to try Napoleonic wargaming again be sure to check out our partner club at the NWC - https://wargame.ch/board/nwc/index.php if the words of Blücher interest you again! :mrgreen:

Thank you for your welcome Blake.

And a special thank you to you, Scott. I still remember that time and I recognized your name immediately. I remember you were head of the French army back in those days.

That was the last time I played wargames for a long time until I stumbled across WDS's products like 9 months ago and I decided to give it another go.
