"Glory" is a Must

Post subject:  "Glory" is a Must
I think I am comfortable saying that Glory should be included in just about everyone's "must see" list. Watching it the other day (again) I was reminded just how good it is. The movie seems to have aged very well and may have actually improved with it. The film captures numerous actors in the prime of their careers and all give solid performances. I honestly think I enjoy the film more and more with each viewing. I am sure the filmmakers took liberties with history and the facts and I know some people will never be "okay" with that. I get it. But entertainment usually trumps history since film studios don't make movies without expecting a return on their investment. When history trumps entertainment you end up with a movie flop like Gods and Generals which just about killed Civil War moviemaking in Hollywood.

Anyways, I just wanted to praise the movie (again) and add it to my list of war movies that should be required viewing for all Americans.

Strangely, I've never seen it. I'll look to do so. Morgan Freeman is a long-time favourite of mine and just last night I finished watching Matthew Broderick in the short series Painkiller which I enjoyed.

I feel Gods and Generals failed due to the vast number of boring speeches being included in a lengthy movie that still managed to leave out so much. Good actors, bad script and continuity. Also, confusing to see Stephen Lang as Jackson after he was Pickett in Gettysburg.

Actually, I think the movie seemed pretty accurate as well as being very entertaining.

I, also, found "Glory" to be both entertaining and uplifting. Yes, it took some liberties (combining characters, omitting details, etc.), but what Hollywood movie doesn't? (Why, they can't even get all the details correct in "The Lord of the Rings"! :D)
