Good day Sirs, gentlemen and fellow officers, First off, I would like to thank you for welcoming me into your club. I always find it hard to introduce myself without being too vague nor too detailed, so here is my honest attempt: I am a husband and the proud father of a 13-year old son. I hail from the great northern land of Quebec, Canada and I currently reside in Montreal. My mother tongue is French but I am almost 100% fluent in English. I am currently a serving member of Canada's Army and I have completed 33 years of service as an infantry officer. I am a soon-to-be retiree as I am nearing the compulsory retirement age (which will hopefully allow me more time to wargame!). As far as my wargaming experience goes, I was a member of the Blitz in the early 2000's and I played a lot of PBEM games back in those days. I was mostly a player of Combat Mission. Unfortunately, I had to put my wargamer ''career'' on hold due to my getting married, having kids and getting posted all-over the place. I am also a military history buff and an avid reader of everything and anything pertaining to military topics. I have developed a keen interest with the ACW since I read Shelby Foote's magnificent opus about 10 years ago. I have just discovered the WDS series of ACW games recently and I own the Antietam title. I am really not proficient nor really good at it but I am ready to learn! I am looking forward to having fun with you guys as well as the rest of our brothers in arms from Dixieland. |

![]() Private of the Liberty Hall Volunteers, 4th Virginia Infantry 1861 by Don Troiani Field Lieutenant Harvey, <Salute> Glad to have you with us Fred! That is an incredible amount of years in the Canadian service. The Combat Mission games are certainly fun and were really cutting edge when they came out. Look forward to hearing about your exploits in battle against the Union! Antietam is a fine choice of a game to start with! ![]() |

Fred, Welcome Sir. An excellent introduction I suggest, setting out the groundwork, clearly and concisely. As time passes you will have much opportunity with your comrades here at the ACWGC to expound further and in greater detail as you may desire. I propose, as a 33 year veteran infantry officer, your learning curve here should be eased with your your experience and skill. Notwithstanding, the games have their nuances and idiosyncrasies and some practice and maneuver before joining battle will doubtless pay dividends. I wish you every success and good fortune here sir. |
