Hello,

I've been plodding through some the scenarios in the Forgotten Campaigns and I'm wondering if I'm missing something.

1) In the Bentonville scenarios, there are exit hexes for the Rebel forces. If I move all of my units towards that exit hex, I should be able to easily win. What am I missing?
2) In the Escape from Cane Island, there is some suggestion that cavalry attack gunboats - again what am I missing?
3) The Battle of Westport and some of the other scenarios seem very one-sided

Any advice as to which are most playable against a human opponent?

Cheers,

Forgotten Battles is an ambitious project involving a lot of battles in different places with different troops. It required a lot of research.

Haven't looked at the cavalry vs gunboats scenario but there were gunboats captured damaged or sunk by cavalry, usually in conjunction with artillery and usually on more constricted waterways than the major rivers.

We have played Mansfield and Pleasant Hill. Mansfield would be playable except for the sacrificial lamb Confederate cavalry destroyed on the opening move. Pleasant Hill was playable, but in both games would have preferred a different PDT.

My advice is to be grateful for all the maps and OOBs. You can always do your own research on a particular battle and then use the scenario editor to modify the scenario.

I recommend viewing this link for a list of the recommended scenarios for head to head play https://www.acwgc.net/forgotten-scenarios

I think its the weakest of the Civil War titles I've played by far.

I agree. That, or it's a very close tie with Campaign Overland (for me at least).

Both titles were done by the same person (won't name names here - but see the game credits). He has some really good ideas but, in my opinion, has a tendency to try too much and overshoot. One example: Scen 118-640505_Wild_A5 is supposed to be a variant where Pickett's Division reinforces Longstreet's Corps. Sounds good, but worthless since Pickett is not in the scenario OOB at all. There are plenty more that can be found using the scenario editor.

Blake Stickler has done some yeoman-like work rescuing Overland with a set of new scenarios that are complete and very playable.
