Gentlemen, I am sad to report that Gen. Walt Dortch, USA, has passed away. His good friend, Jim Boling, reported the news via email today. Walt was a leader in our club since he joined in 2017. He served in numerous roles voluntarily and was always greatly concerned with the well-being of the Club and its members. He will most definitely be missed by those on both sides. More information, and maybe a formal obituary, will be posted when/if they become available. |

It is with great sadness I read your message. I did not know Walt personally although his name always figured prominently here on my interactions within the Club. He will indeed be missed, a sad loss. My deepest condolences to his family & friends. |

So very saddened to hear the news of Walt's passing, shocked really. His dedication to club affairs was legendary. He enjoyed gaming and particularly multi-player challenges. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends who are left behind. Respectfully, |

Gentlemen, I am profoundly shocked by this terrible news. Walt & I saw each other on the field many times. Sometimes he won; sometimes I did. The West Harpeth River, the Rappahannock, the Virginia Central RR - great games which had so many twists and turns. Whatever happened, you were assured a competitive and able opponent who was a leader in the ACWGC. Walt was a good President and a good Cabinet Secretary, who gave his time generously whenever needed. We didn't always agree (who does?) but his passion and commitment to this place was second to none. He had the inspiration and the drive to form the Wolverine MP teams, which I definitely think has raised the standard of play on both sides of the lines. Only within the last week, Walt was instrumental in setting up yet another MP game. It was what he did, and we are all the better for it. As many of you know, I have a young family, and Walt and I swapped pictures of his grand-children, in which he had so much pride and love. I also thoroughly enjoyed his pictures of his travels with his wife - among many other talents, he could really use a camera. My heart goes out to his family, who I know will miss him so much. My sincere condolences to President Boling, who had been close friends with Walt in the real world for many years. I always felt Walt and Walt's teams played like the Mid Westerners of the Army of the Tennessee - tough, confident veterans who simply didn't quit, no matter the obstacle. Pixels on a screen given vivid life by the driving personality behind it. I will miss that driving personality a great deal. <SALUTE> |

I worked with Walt Dortch after Joe Meyer had to retire suddenly. He and Jim Boling stepped up to keep the Union Army functioning. He was an asset to the Union Army and the ACWGC and will be missed. My condolences to his family. |

I was out of town yesterday without my laptop and did not read the news until this morning. I am shocked and saddened. My prayers go out to his family. Walt became a confidant of mine when I assumed command of the Army of the Potomac in September 2023. He helped me tremendously to acclimate to Army command since then. I could always trust Walt for solid guidance. I am also a Wolverine and respected Walt's direction for the teams. He will be sorely missed by many. |

Walt was one of the first persons I met when I joined the club in the fall of 2023. He soon became a mentor and eventually a friend. I had the pleasure to work with Walt on several of his pet projects and I will miss his emails about pizza recipes, drone flying or his spectacular pictures of the American Southwest. Walt, you will be missed. |

I joined the Club not long after Walt did, and he quickly became my best friend in the club as we played multiplayer games and served together from DC through Cabinet leadership positions. He was always a terrific force for good in the club and beyond. His presence and friendship will be sorely missed. <Salute> |
