Members, friends:
Math, needless to say, not being one of my strong suits (and I have very few), is there a straightforward way not to count VP hexes in a given scenario? Sometimes my opponent and I just want to fight it out without having to defend/take territory that might have been important in the actual, historical battle back then, but are irrelevant or skew the one we are developing in our own, new battle. "Just not counting them" might work in certain circumstances, but what then of the victory levels where, presumably, the designer factored in VP hexes to help determine--along with actual battlefield casualties--who has a minor, major defeat/victory etc?

You can always use the scenario editor to remove objectives and change the victory levels, but I recommend you then save the new scenario under a different name.

Mike is correct, that's the ideal way.

But if you just want to not worry about scenario editing (very understandable) then just take a snapshot of the Victory Dialog at turn one and the Objective Points the game begins with by default. You and I just played Matrix First Bull Run last month so I will use that as an example. There the Union starts with 1100 Objective Points. No matter what happens in the game by the end, the Union will still have 1100 objective points by default. You would then just need to add up the Victory Points gained/lost through battlefield combat and then add the 1100 points to the outcome. If the Union at Matrix FBR has 1500 or more points they have a victory - 900 or less a defeat.

The caveat is that, in FBR, the Union starts with 1100 points, right? A Minor Defeat is only 200 points away and a minor victory is 400 points away. In theory, you should chat with your opponent about this because it puts the Union side in a small hole at the start that they can't easily make up through the simple capturing of a flag. They must make up the points through combat. In some scenarios one side or the other has a harder battle to win and so the victory point levels are not always that easy to predetermine. But battles which are generally even/fair the issue is probably not too hard to compromise on. But in a battle like Gettysburg it would be really hard for the Rebel player to win without the benefit of Victory Point hexes.

Generals,
Many thanks for what you've both written. Makes eminent sense.
Respectfully,
