Gentlemen, I would appreciate some more insights into this monster scenario. As I've mentioned I put together a better (I think) way to present the Order of Battle for this scenario and I have a couple of questions. First of all, the 325 men in two regiments: C 32 Mass (50 men) and 7th cos 4th N.J. (275 men) that make up the Artillery Reserve located (169,330) are never released. Likewise 4 out of 10 batteries of 2nd Vol Brigade also of the Artillery Reserve located at (173,331) are never released. Not sure if this is an oversight or if that was intended. I'd like to know what the most number of turns you have played in this scenario in any format i.e. solo, against the AI, 2 player or multi player. What is your general overall opinion of the scenario?? And I'd like to know anyone and everyone's thoughts regarding the Union having (by my count) 22 supply wagons servicing 322 regiments for presumably 3 days and the Rebs having 10 supply wagons servicing 225 regiments over 3 days? And finally, if there is anyone with any other thoughts about this particular scenario I'd love to hear them. |

My opponent and I are currently on Turn 110 in the modified 007 Gettysburg. I think it'll be continuing for some time yet. All I changed in that scenario was the supply situation. Supply wagons were increased in size (for both sides) and essentially align with the small arms supply Blake discussed in one of his videos. I did not increase the number of supply wagons as I still wanted there to be the same opportunity of localised shortages. I also increased the artillery ammunition for the Confederates based upon an historical analysis of rounds expended by both sides during the three-day battle. I'll post a full explanation for my changes when I post the scenario following the test of the full battle. My opponent mentioned to me sometime during Day 2 regarding the unreleased units. I opened up the scenario and moved it on to discover what those units were and researched the situation. Below is what I wrote to him following my research. In case you don't want to read it all: Long story short, the designer knew what he was doing in having those units fixed. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ I quickly checked them with the 'Civil War in the East' website (which I've found to be very accurate, and a lot easier than the Official Records). 84 Penn. "The regiment was not engaged during the battle of Gettysburg. It was commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Milton Opp, mustered 240 men and suffered no casualties. From the monument on the Gettysburg battlefield: July 1. The regiment was on duty guarding the division wagon trains. Moved with the column on the road from Taneytown to Emmitsburg and on the opening of the battle was ordered with the train to Westminster Md. where it arrived July 2d at 7 a.m. and picketed the roads near the wagon parks until the close of the battle." The scenario allocates 250 men. I accept that as fine as the designer said: "I cross referenced the numbers I arrived at with the most recent available pre-campaign muster strengths, and made adjustments where necessary. Results were rounded to the nearest 25. I felt this was only honest. The idea that one can set the exact strength of a unit on a given day in a 30 day campaign is, I felt, less than completely honest. I've used the exact numbers for the historical battles." Battery B 1st Conn. "Detatched [sic] Companies B & M were not at Gettysburg, being held in reserve due to the mobile nature of the campaign. General Hunt afterwards regretted not having the heavy guns, which he felt could have done good service." C 32 Mass. This is an odd one. 32 Mass. saw action at Gettysburg. That fixed unit appears to be a detachment. The main unit is represented elsewhere in the game as: 32 Mass. 2 Bde. 1 Div. 5 Corps - 350 men. The allocation of men seems overly generous. My research indicates [from their Gettysburg monument] that they had 227 men. The game gives 32 Mass. 350 men plus the fixed detachment of 50. 7 Cos 4 N. J. "The Fourth New Jersey Infantry Regiment was commanded at Gettysburg by Maj. Charles Ewing, it brought 386 men to the field, suffering no casualties. The 4th was detached from the brigade during Gettysburg. Companies A, C, and H acted as Provost Guard, with the remainder of the regiment guarding the Reserve Artillery train, shown by a marker near School House Road." |
