Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth, on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.

Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.

But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate—we can not consecrate—we can not hallow—this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. We argued at work over the weekend about the three most "American" movies of all-time. We opted to narrow it down to the last 50 years just to keep it easier for the "kids" who had never heard of Sands of Iwo Jima or Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.

After much debate we could not agree on a top three.

But the top candidates were (in no order):
Saving Private Ryan
Forrest Gump
Top Gun
Rocky
Die Hard
Glory
Independence Day

Gentlement, Sirs! <salute>

Well for me hands down some of the best WWII combat scenes were from Saving Private Ryan!

That part where Tom Hanks is trying to get the men off the beach and attack uphill the enemy positions was terrifying, you could hear the incoming rounds whistling by and the impact on the GI's was heartbreaking!

To this day I just don't know how they could do it and I am sure that I would have dirtied my shorts if I had lived long enough to do it!

Back in 2014 I got to walk along some of those beaches and see some of the fortifications that still exist, a very daunting task!

Forrest Gump has the most American soundtrack without a doubt.

Indiana Jones, Rudy and Star Wars can be added to the conversation as quintessential American classics in their own ways.

The Longest Day,
They Were Expendable
Tora Tora Tora
Midway
Saving Private Ryan
Since this is not a Movie I would put this on my list, Band Of Brothers
