Gentlemen,

During a full campaign in Peninsula, if you destroy a bridge in one battle of the campaign, will it still be destroyed when you move to the next battle of the campaign or will they magically reappear fully restored the way supply wagons and arty ammo do?

Lt. Col. Lynn, Sir

I like to make some little tests, here is the result.

I simulate a Peninsula campaign, the first battle was on a small map, no bridge.
I end the game quickly with a termination bid (draw).

Second battle: two days of action, June 26 and 27.
The Union demolish the Mechanicsville bridge at (51-61) by melee.
The Confederates demolish one of the two Meadow bridges (35,44) by melee.
When the bridges are completely destroyed, I make a termination bid (draw).

Third battle: the Confederates choose the "Preserve upper Chickahominy bridges" option. The Union choose to counter-attack immediately.
The battle open June 28 with <b>the two bridges fully repaired</b>.

If that is the case, then it is a bad decision, IMHO. The bridges should be considered strategic and tactical locations, and their state should carry over into different campaign battles. Especially since we don't have engineer companies yet in the ACW games...

I see your point, but considering that the change is something that would have to be "hardwired" into the code (ie. The campaign save file would have to be modded to include bridge damage, and then when the new campaign started, it would likewise have to be modded to look for the damage to bridges), it would be a fairly detailed and labor intensive change to make.

I just think there are bigger fish to fry. And, for a totally "realistic" approach, there is always the "monster" campaign anyway.

The only things that carry over are attributes of things found in the OOB file, either directly (both scenarios use the same OOB file), or indirectly (two or more OOB files linked together with an ORG file.)

Unit strengths, and leaders are being tracked, basically. I believe JT has a mechanism for carrying fatigue as well, although this may not be true, and might be, being done by the scenario designer assigning fatigue points during setup to account for a previous day's action.
