Ok so I am trying this in another place I am in online. Judging on who we know in this club and what we know about them. If we all met in dress parade who would have the flashiest best pants on??
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ![]() Brigadier General Scott Ludwig 6/1/III/ANV "The Army Commissary" Retried ANV Commander 2004-06 http://www.networkforgood.org I am loath to close. We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battlefield and patriot grave to every living heart and hearthstone all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature. -Abraham Lincoln, 1st Inaugural Address
|

I suppose this depends on what you mean by 'flashiest best pants'. If you mean those that best 'follow regulations', and are crisply pressed (as Lee?), that would be one thing. If you mean 'most fashionable' (as in Custer or -- if I remember correctly -- Ben McCulloch), that would be another thing entirely. With that in mind, here are my observations: From the time I've spent in Cabinet discussions with Club President Pierre Desruisseaux, I see him as being one who favors function over form. In good Civil War tradition, I think he'd be wearing a comfortable pair of pants, well worn, probably with a few patches. If a nicer pair came in with the next supply wagon, he'd pass the newer pair on to some poor soldier who needed them worse than he did. I know General Mark Nelms both as a fellow Cabinet member and as an opponent. I've been told he fights 'like a bulldog' -- frontal assaults that will tear you apart, and nearly-impregnable defenses. I see him as being more 'by the book': His sky-blue trousers would not only be cut according to regulations, but the officers on his staff would be wearing the exact same style, cut from the same bolt of cloth. General Walter I only know by reputation, but if he dresses like he fights I expect he would be wearing a pair of pants fashioned after Napoleon's -- and woe to the stander-by who dared scoff. As for Lt. 'Notso' Quick, I can't help but think he'd show up in a Zouave uniform. I don't know if the pants would be blue, red, yellow, or plaid, but you can bet they wouldn't match anyone else on the field. Of course, everyone knows General Don Adams wouldn't bother waiting for a tailor -- he'd read the manual, purchase a needle, thread, and some cloth, sew up his own pair of trousers, and make adjustments in the field as needed [:D] ! As BG Carroll can attest, I'd show up wearing black leather pants. Don't let your minds wander too far on this one. It goes with the rest of the motorcycle gear. Chuck Berdanier Lt Col, 2/1/IX, AoO National Light Infantry |
