Well, I just finished playing '50,000 Gleaming Bayonets' the 30 turn Fredricksburg battle played on the BGN engine. Things went pretty well for the Union cause and I'd like to see if there's a rebel out there who can stop my battleplan. To be fair, the scenario was rated as dead equal before we started the game but I suspect it will gradually move towards the Union side with more play. Basically, I'm throwing down the gauntlet. BGN/FBG 50,000 Gleaming Bayonets, 30 turns, all options on. Do you think you can beat me? Then bring it on. I'd prefer experienced players for this one but I'm willing to take on anyone as I understand that most of you rebs will be afraid to take on this burden.[:p] Lieutenant Colonel Don Golen 1st Division, I Corps, AoP USA! Played this as the Reb and fail to see how a Federal player could have lost it. Shows you the (very limited) value of scenario win/loss statistics. Gen. Walter, USA 2/VIII AoS Commandant, Union Army War College |

Colonel Golen, there is no need of a Confederate player. Of course you can play a manuever ....[:p] Regards, Colonel Isacco Ubaldi Commander 2nd Brigade II/II/ANV/CSA |

Isacco, are you saying you would like to take me on as the Union player? Hmmm. Maybe I should. Are you interested?[:)] Lieutenant Colonel Don Golen 1st Division, I Corps, AoP USA! "http://myweb.cableone.net/dagolen/1d1caop.gif" |

Colonel Golen, I have played two Fredericksburg (2 days battle) testing all "my" theory. And this the results: In the first against Colonel Erlenbach (AoS) I try to defend all the lines. A total debacle. Colonel Erlenbach attack on Mary's Heights and .... bye bye Confederate strategy. Union Major Victory after 6 turns.[}:)] In the second against General Horrocks I try my second theory: a big and quickly retreat to defend only the corner SW of the map. But the Union have no fixed unit (I think!) and it's not possible to form a new defence line .... bye bye second Confederate strategy. Union Major Victory after 19 turns.[xx(] Now I try the third strategy: unistall the game from my hard disk. It's very successfull .... [^] For this reason I can't accept your nice challenge[;)] Regards, Colonel Isacco Ubaldi Commander 2nd brigade II/II/ANV/CSA |

Isacco, maybe you didn't understand. I said I would play the Confederates and you play the Union. I've been thinking of a counterstrategy to the Marye's Heights attack and I want to try it out. Of course if you're afraid that you might lose to me even playing the Union......... [:D] Lieutenant Colonel Don Golen 1st Division, I Corps, AoP USA! Colonel Golen, I understand and for this I called "nice" your challenge. I think we must play a game together sooner or later but in this moment I have no free time for this ....[:D] About my fear to lose I have not a great battle record to defend and for this reason one defeat more o less is not a great difference for me!!!![V] Regards, Colonel Isacco Ubaldi Commander 2nd Brigade II/II/ANV/CSA |
