Long book and only halfway through even with a good deal of time put in. But I enjoy the book, and often use the internet to look up things I am less familiar with. The premise is that European leaders sort of unconsciously sleepwalked their way into WWI. The details in this book are amazing. And a huge number of footnotes. It really shows a great deal of diplomatic and logistical details of the way the nations worked into the war. I tend to digest it in small segments because of the details. High recommend for anyone who wants to immerse themselves in the process of the set-up of WWI. (I remember years ago reading The Guns of August, and learning a basic history....The Sleepwalkers, however, seems to be a scholarly, well researched book. Probably more for the history nerd, but that suits me. Michael Laabs |
