Well, I hid the challenge in the report of my defeat to Gen Natta, so perhaps no one saw it, so I'll be a bit more blatant. I am looking for a Redcoat to fight in 1776 (I try to keep one game of each active at all times). Surely, one of you brave Englishmen are willing to step up and fight. Or are you all hiding behind the Highlanders skirts? I'd willingly face a Hessian lapdog as well? Well, gentlemen, if I can use that term? Not particular about scenario. I do tend to play fairly quickly though, so I like fast turnarounds. Gary McClellan Private 36th Infantry 1812-R |

Hm, you dodged my challenge twice, saying, as I recall, you wanted to make at least Ensign first ... so please don't tell us about hiding behind anything, will you? Capt. My dear Captain, Private McClellan was merely trying to save you the emabarassment of losing to an enlisted man. Major Al Amos 1st U.S. Dragoons 1812-R |

Capt Walter, Well, without going back into the archives, I seem to remember specifically saying that as soon as I got 1776, I'd have a spot open on my dancecard for you, and when my game arrived, I advertised for an opponent, and you didn't bother answering. So, I'm only a private still, though suspect my promotion to corporal isn't too far off, so if you are up for some corporal punishment, send a courier and we can settle this long winded score. Easy private. Captain Walter is not one to trifle with. However, I feel you are capable of the job. Remember, when issuing challenges to our redcoat friends, you should speak slowly and look them in the eye. Their ill fitting wigs often impair their hearing and they resort to lip reading. Cpt. Good to see some banter in the ol' Tavern, though i'd rather see Natta's head on a platter. Don't know if we have a platter big enough come to think of it..nevermind Mingoe "High Head" Rodes Pushmataha's Choctaws 1812 American Army Irregulars |

McClellan, if you dodge a challenge twice you can't expect that same officer to answer your very general announcements later on ... A message directed to him personally would be the least required from you for saving what little is left of your personal honor (if applicable to Colonial Yankee Rebels anyway) after such an incident. Nevertheless, I will accept and give you the chance to redeem yourself (only because we are on the same side in the later war though). Pick the field on which you want your remains to be buried, and I'll be there. And no rifle fire nonsense - if it all possible, try to behave like a Gentleman at least now! Capt. Capt Walter, As I said, I knew there was a thread where I was more than just "general", to wit, this is pasted out of the thread "What's Up With That", Oct 26 (before my 1776 arrived) "Lt Walter, well, my copy of 1776 is currently in process through the mail, and I'm also finishing up with a game at River Raisen... so, maybe a spot on my dance card might be open in a week or two..." So, it should be clear that the spot was open just for you. But, In any case, it seems the time has finally come to settle this like men. I'll reply to you directly a bit later and we can make arrangements for the appropriate field. Gary McClellan Private 36th Infantry 1812-R |

Well, seems a public apology is needed then ... I can only say, to my excuse, that my horse had serious health problems for the last weeks, so I could attend the tavern only infrequently. Anyway, since I have now added an insult of my own to yours, we will indeed meet in the field. My courier has already been dispatched to your billet. It will be my pleasure to whip the butt of one of Al's boys. Capt. Captain Walter, I do believe that Private McClellan as reserved the sole rights to whipping his butt to Mrs. McClellan .
