A sad day for the Royal Army. Our left wing was turned, any reinforcements were as soon routed as they appeared on the field. Once again it turned out that there is nothing more difficult than directing fresh forces into an ongoing battle. <i>O! that we now had here but one ten thousand of those men in England that do no work to-day.</i> New orders have told me to move south.
