As the new commander of Lafitte's Baratarians I have to prove to the men that I am worthy to command a fine group as this. Any British officer care to take my men and I on? Please send me a messenger and we will arrange to meet at a suitable killing ground!

My Dear Private Miller:
Were I not already embroiled in a few other affairs with your new found compatriots, I'd be forced to make an example of you for turning your back on your King. You do recall the gracious furnishings you had as a British officer compared to what now must be absolute spartan conditions you now suffer under Sir? A clean and voluminous officer's tent now becomes a cramped lean-to crowded with flea infested farmers. Cognac and red port now become stagnant disease laden creek water. What was once a fine brick red uniform now becomes tattered and filthy rags. Your faithful old Brown Bess exchanged for a rusty unreliable pop-gun best used as a crutch. 'Tis a sad day indeed when one of His Majesty's brightest officers takes up arms against all that made him what he was . Tread lightly Sir, I hear a bounty of 100 Crowns has been placed upon your shaggy traitorous head.

Come now Sir Natta, 100 pounds sterling? For an soldier of Miller's caliber? How things have changed since Georgie's "new austerity".

I remember the days when you used to pay the Hessians and the rest of your lap dogs. I did enjoy drinking on the Hesssian silver!

As to Miller's accomodations, I am sure you are mistaken. Pvt. Miller has a posting in the Caribbean. Sailing with Lafitte, the finest plundered silks, aged stocks of rum, roasted meats, only your homesick colonial troops like the 38th to fight regularly, beautiful and exotic women.... It may be the best posting in the Americas!

There should be plenty of tax money for bounties. There are no active Hessians so not much to spend there, the Provincials don't fight so no drain on the treasury there, and the regular army is a front for about three officers. Wigs for three cant cost that much.

Sir, I have found the accomadations much to my liking, despite not being quite up to what may be considered Proper by your standards. I have found the americans cause to be proper and just and the excesses against the people here intolorable so have decided to fight for what seems to me to be the right side in my eyes. If I must suffer some earthly comforts in order to have a clear soul, then so be it sir! Im sure after our side is victorious we will have all the comforts that free people deserve!
