Post subject:  making my own oob?

Greetings everybody! I've been thinking about making my own version of Monmouth (one where Knyphausen decides to show up), but I can't figure out how to make my own oob. I have the oob editor, but I can't figure out how to make it work. If anybody can offer me any help to get started it would be greatly appreciated. <img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

If 1776 works similar to the BG games, you can just edit the OOB as a txt file.

Justin,

Try reading the article at this link:

Although the oob editor is nice a fancy, I find using a text editor much easier.

Thanks for the help guys. :) Yes, I have to agree, the OOB editor is quite fancy. Of course it would have helped had they included a section for help with the program. ;-) Guess what I'll be spending my Friday night doing? Making my own battles. lol.

I assume you want to base it on the existing OOB. Open the one you want in WordPad or similar, Save As a new OOB: MonMod.OOB

Then

1. File, New -> Existing OOB
2. Save as a new Text file: HesseHanau.txt
3. Give a title: Mommouth Mod v1.0
4. On the line OOB File, click the "..." button and OPen the new OOB: MonMod.OOB
5. Ditto Backup File, Save As: MonMod_backup.OOB
6. (And here is the magic) On the Line: Target File, click the "..." In the ensuing dialog box, open the DATA folder. You will then have the choice of games. Pick 1776.
7. You can then click the "Accept" button and you are off.

That should get you started. I have not toyed with the unit pictures yet, but that seems pretty straight forward.

I like to use the OOB editor to build the structure. I then find it easier to use a text editor to go back and tweak things.

Good Luck
