The US Senate declared April 6th as Tartan Day, a celebration of things Scottish, in 1998. April 6th was chosen to comemerate the Declaration of Abroath. In 1320, Scotland declared independence from England on a paper including the line: "We fight not for glory, nor riches, nor honors; but for freedom alone, which no man gives up, except with his life."
