During my recent stay at Fort Stanwix, I cam across some entries from the Orderly Book of the 1759 garrison (Fraser's Highlanders). Commanding officer was major James Clephane.

"No Snow balls were to be thrown in the Fort by any person whatever" - 8 Jan

Sergeants and corporals are to prevent gambling in the barracks and guard room, " by which there is a Good Deal of Money Loss'd & Gaind." - 18 Jan

The men have begun to " Debauch themselves by Drinking a Great Deal too Much of that Pernicious & hurtful Licquor New England Rum." - 31 Jan

(From Brumwell's Redcoats)

Now I understand what business you and Glyn had about this godforsaken stockade yesterday ... Glyn wanted you to part with some of the rum!
