Gents, I've been having some PC problems which prompted me to try and delete an old copy of Mcaffee viruscan. Not a good idea, since my mail program now won't open and I can't use my keyboard with IE. I'm actually typing this on notepad and than copying it and pasting it in the message. To try and fix I've got to go into the registry and delete a corrupted Pstores.exe file. There is a good chance that I'll be completely crashed after that. <G> I'll be ordering another pc as well as getting this fixed which may require a full restore given the various problems I've had. There are a couple of problems. 1, I'm not sure how long it will take to get a new one if this crashes. 2 It may take me awhile to get running after since I'll be on WIN XP and I'm now with Win 98 so I expect some initial problems. If anyone has any suggestions or idea please post here. Corporal Sam Moon Ferguson's Amer. Volunteers |

Sam, I'd suggest doing a total format of your current hard drive then reinstalling WIndows (98 or XP, what ever) I'd also suggest using Norton Anti Virus as I've had a lot less problems with it both at home and professsionally. I deal with AV programs daily. If you need any pointers let me know. I have quite a few resources at my disposal. Rich
Lt. Col. Hamilton, New York Militia
|

Rich - interesting to note. I have heard the opposite but have never used McAfee in the coporate environment. I have always heard that McAfee gets rid of what NAV detects but cant. At least NAV doesnt have the dubious honor of messing up systems! Maj. Bill Peters, Morgan's Rifles, American Army Commander of French Dept. |

Wierd, no I had trouble with McAfee Firewall once, utterly messed up both the AV program and Outlook Express (which I've since abandoned anyway), but never with the AV proggie itself. Lt Gary McClellan 12th Virgina Light Dragoons CO Northern Department |

I run Eudora Pro 4.2. I absolutely LOVE it. There's no way I would use a Microsoft program for e-mail ever again. http://www.eudora.com/ As for McAfee, there's several reasons I don't like it. I have come across easily a dozen machines that it has completely destabilized and it takes forever to clean it out. It also, like AOL, installs entirely too many extra things for my liking. However, witht hat said, if your system is running good with it, there's no point in changing...
Lt. Col. Hamilton, New York Militia
Edited by - Rich Hamilton on 07/20/2002 16:01:40 |

Folks: The absolute BEST non-MS email program is INCREDIMAIL. The FREE version works very well, but the $30, full version is AWESOME! One of the BEST features of INCREDIMAIL is the graphcs, but the security vs Outlook Exp is a better reason. With OE, I was getting several KLEZ attachments, daily. My Norton Virus isolated the files and made it easy to get rid of them, but since changing to INCREDIMAIL, I have not had ONE KLEZ attack. The transition from Outlook Express to INCREDIMAIL is simple and quick and seamless. All emails and address books are easily moved over. Ernie Sands BGen, 3rd East Kent,CCC President, Colonial Camp Club Col,1 Konig,VIII,AdR LtGen,CO XXIII Corps AoO Sch,183Inf,VIII,PzC Pvt B Co, 3/3-MBC |
