Post subject:  Snapshots

Lately each turn I've been taking 2D zoom out snapshots of the main areas of action in the club games I'm playing, then I run them through a slide show program. Makes for an interesting visual display of the ebb and flow of battle, and gives reference points in time for how successful or unsuccessful a plan is unfolding. I always take the snapshot with the same numbered hex in the upper left hand corner of the display to keep the same perspective throughout the slide show. Kinda neat I think.

Al, is this too much like using aerial photography? <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Phil,

Not at all. I have been meaning to put together a Power Point packet doing essentially the same thing to show regimental and brigade formation changes.

Another little trick you can do with this is setting up a blind scenario, and while you have each side on screen during the first turn (the one's the players don't get to play) take snapshots, convert them over to B&W then send them along to the other side as a basic intel photo.

It worked in miniatures. Every know and then we would set up a micro armour game take a few B&W photos at the beginning (night before) then when the game was about to start players would be briefed away from the table with maps, oobs and these photos. That was fun.

That sounds interesting. I'll have to try this out AND Al's Power Point idea could be used as a training tool. Although it does seem like it would be a lot of work.
