Post subject: Challenge to Gen'l Cope

All the time since my last promotion I have been harbouring the thought that it was about time to begin playing with the big guys ... haven't faced a general (shudder!) in my entire carreer. Now since I don't want to start any fratricides that leaves me with but one choice - I have to challenge Gen'l Cope. Sir! Will you do me the favor to pick a scenario, preferable not Germantown or Brandywine size? I would then pick the options and with perfect equanimity face my certain destruction. If the general so pleases, that is.

Way too risky ... letting you pick the options ... you sly young fox

How about me picking the game (not too longish) and your choice on:

Manual Defensive Phase
Rifle effects
Cornwallis Cannon
Line Disruption
Weak-zoc

ALL other options ON

After all .. with rank comes priviledge

Well, I thought it was the usual style - one picks the scenario, the other picks the options. But NP. LMD and weak ZOC's on, the other three off. Thanks for accepting my challenge.

To be quite candid Dierk .. I usually let my opponent pick the game and his choice of the aforementioned options. I prefer not to mess with the others because it is too hard to figure out what is going on when one or more of them is turned off.

But ... one New Style game coming up. I will pick a balanced one .. of this you can be assured, my fine young British Sir!

It will have to be later though, as I am still at the grindstone (office). Damn the real world

Hey, wait a sec.. I've fought Gen's Natta, Coffey and Sands already.. and Dierk is just now getting around to fighting generals?

What is this? Has he been sandbagging, looking for easier prey.

Oh yeah, he's been playing me.. he's definately been looking for easier prey

Look, Gary, the problem is that if a Colonial comes out and announces his wish to fight, 20 British start a race to catch him first before he disappears again, and of course, who gets the lion's share of him - the generals!
Besides, the general officer as such is a much rarer species on the Rebel side.

Disappear? We do not "dissappear". We stand and take our beatings like men I tell you!

And, as to Colonial Generals, give me time... I'm gunning for Lt Col by the end of November... so I'm getting closer

Yeah, I have seen you take a lot of beating, like a man.
And I'd be perfectly willing to further your way to the stars by a lot more beating ... especially since my own way there would benefit from it as well.

Well, he's done it to me again. Have to give Dierk credit, he keeps stomping one me like clockwork. This time, Greensprings. I think the "record" is something like I've won once, drew once, and he's ground me into tofu 3 times, so he very much has the advantage in this lil series. Congrats Dierk

Well, it's over ... a nice little engagement at Cowpens it was. We advanced in a compact mass on a very small front, but those Rebel militia, all in x-line, were stubborn ... we went in with the bayonet and pushed them back again and again, but they kept reforming and the line never really broke. Then those pesky militia began to overlap both our flanks ... our cavalry bagged some of them on our right, but then in turn 7 suddenly everything went wrong ... our left wing just disappeared, an entire regiment taking to their heels, and in the same moment masses of Rebel troopers popped up from the woods in our rear, capturing Colonel Tarleton and the three companies he was trying to rally. Within 5 minutes, all was lost and we beat a hasty retreat. I am embarrassed to report that the Rebels under the able leadership of Gen'l Cope scored a victory at Cowpens and the colours of the 4th have a stain on their honor. We hope to redeem ourselves at Eutaw Springs now.

Dierk,

It sounds so much better when you say it ... me I thought I just eeked out a win against some very stiff resistance.
