Does anyone know and use this software? I think it was mentioned on a club board as a means to get rid of changing the CD all the time. I think about purchasing it - is it worth it?

Drop me a line on this when you find out. I'm trying to use a laptop and this would be helpful.

[:D]Remember, the Virtual CD places the entire CDROM files on YOUR HD, AFAIK. I guess, in the case of the Talonsoft titles, you could delete the ads for all the other games and save HD space and (maybe) sound and video files.

That's what I thought ... but you haven't tried it, have you?

I haven't tried it and didn't have any real reason to, until I got my laptop. Now, I want to add a couple of titles to my laptop, but don't want to try to remember WHERE my CDROMS are.

I have downloaded a demo (30 day use) and tried it, and it works just fine. The software creates a virtual CD drive (or several). You can then copy a condensed image of the physical CD on the drive as a "virtual CD". You can "insert" it into the virtual drive and then it works just like the physical CD. I have just installed and run 1776 from the virtual CD and it worked fine. You can even do a compact install (only battle files) and it still runs as fast as with a full install. Very nice so far. Of course that means I will have to reinstall all the games (otherwise they will look for the CD in the physical drive).

Guys,

There was a thread on the Mason Dixon about this a while back...so I tried the single CD method of writting all the text files, in their default directory, to a single cd. I now have 17 games working off a single cd-rom, with room to add many more. If you have a cd-burner then this is the way to go by far. You have to have performed a normal install of the game first though.

I have no burner, and my CD drive is a DVD/CD. Not changing the CD as such, but the time the drive needs to check whether the inserted disk is a DVD or CD is the annoying thing for me. With everything on the HDD, things run much smoother.

I use Paragon CD Emulator. It is a good program that works well for this purpose.
Glad you were able to get a program that works for you Dierk.
