To Everyone,

I have been with the CCC for more than 2 years now and I fear my time is up. The tech people that were to fix my PC have made my situation far worse. It has a new virus on it and is virtually impossible to clean and the price tag of a new pc is really expensive for me. I wanted to give you all a heads up and if you are playing a with me, wait 2 weeks, then please claim a victory. I apologize for flaking out, but I've had no way of getting on the PC. I am sitting at a library right now. I might get the old computer back but I refuse to send any files. I won't risk infecting any of your computers.

Thank you for the all the good times!
Hopefully this is not the end but I pray it is not....

Whoa there matey! Ok - so the DRIVE is infected. There are numerous inexpensive solutions to go on this route two of which I will outline and will even help you with (as you will read):
1. Low level format your current hard drive. I dont know if the techs have tried that one yet but it is about the most destructive avenue available to a user. It may or may not be a way to rid your drive of the virus. The newer controller cards out there and some motherboard chipsets have routines you can run to do this.
2. Buy a new hard drive and controller card (as the older systems dont support the new, faster drives). I am supposing that you have at least ONE slot available on your system. Get a new Ultra DMA 100 or 133 hard drive and a new controller card in your PC (with cable). Reinstall your OS - dont use the older drive(s) at all of course. If you are that broke I can spring for a drive if you will pay for the controller card (only about 50 bucks). Installation is easy. The controller card handles the new drive via its own I/O controller function.
Question about your system:
1. Is it proprietary? Meaning is it Compaq, Dell, Gateway, etc? or did you buy it from a local shop?
2. Do you have all of the original drivers for the various peripheral devices? If not they can USUALLY but not always be found on the web.

Dont give up! If a virus is the problem then only your drive is affected unless there is some virus in existence that can infect the BIOS chipset that I dont know of.

Contact me if you need help.

Sean,

As Bill mentioned, there's definitely solutions to this. Formatting WILL take care of the virus in 99% of the cases. Heck, if you were in my area I could have you back up and running in about an hour. Of course that doesn't include reloading all your games, etc...but you get the point. Contact us. There's enough people around to get you going again without a lot of cost.

Rich
