Does it make sense that a river can cut off a units retreat but the same river will not allow a unit to be isolated? I am in a heavy contest against Bartholemew and his owner at Bennington and I made the tactical blunder to force Bart and his owner to the rivers edge thinking I could isolate, melee and remove some of His Majestys finest troops and HM's leading FOP. If you played Bennington as the Good Guys you know that there are few bayonets and the only way to successfully melee is to isolate. Oh well now I am all shot up and I am starting to run faster and faster away. That dang FOP has outsmarted another Yankee. But back to the question; does it make sense that a River (which is can not be crossed except for a bridge) can block a retreat but can not lead to isolation? Ens. Gremmels Northern Dept |

It doesn't make sense to me Sir, unless you consider that Bartholemew is an excellent swimmer and can easily deliver my orders, ammunition, and rum.....er, water to the laddies in question. |

No it does not make perfect sense, but I don't think it is fixable. You need to ZOC the open water hexes. (Same holds true for the NRC/CPE). |

It is realistic in the sense that if the surrounded troops cannot move, they also cannot be bayoneted from the rear. So they can concentrate their attention to the hexes to their front. Mike's explanation is the real answer from a game designer's point. Mine is just a way to rationalize what we experience. |
