Post subject: | 1776 Install Problem |
I have a weird one here on my long anticipated install of 1776 - the install.exe won't execute. [?][?] I'm not talking about autorun (though it won't run either) but the actual manual opening of the install.exe itself. So far I've: - disabled anti-virus (and everything else) via msconfig - cleaned the optical reader in the CD itself Note: the 1776 cd IS fully readable. I can open every file on the cd itself except for this one ity bity file. And also, it DID execute the very first time, but hung and i had to abort. after that .. no mas. Any ideas on how to install around the exe on the CD ? I'm stumped on this one .. not to mention a tad frustrated [:(] Btw, running XP and had no problems when I installed Corinth awhile back. |

Solved the problem. As an FIY for everyone else, the aborted install left some entries in the registry that had to be manually deleted. Hope to present you boys with a new target shortly [:D] |

Greetings Mr. Counselman. Should you wisely choose to take the King's shilling, you'll find life in the British Army quite pleasurable, as opposed to a life of abject misery and need in "that other Army". [;)] Think on it Sir...a full tin canteen of slightly cut rum versus a leather pouch of disease bearing creek water. I have the same problem as that originally flaged here with 1776[:(]. Is there a kind soul that can advise someone obviusly somewhat less computer literate [:o)]how to clear the registry so as to allow a re-install of 1776. Ensign Andy Burke 44th East Essex
quote:
I have a weird one here on my long anticipated install of 1776 - the install.exe won't execute. Hi Andy, Go to the Start button, then choose Run. Type regedit in the box and click "OK". This brings you intot he regestry editor. Now go to the Edit menu, and choose "Find". In that box type Campaign 1776 and then click the "Find Next" button. Delete any key's you find with the Campaign 1776 string in them. When done, reboot, then you should be able to insert the CD and autorun will begin the setup procedure. Regards, Rich |

Rich, Many thanks for your speedy reply. Unfortunatly it doesn't seem to have worked. I still get the message on running set up: 'Do you want to completely remove the selected application and all its componets' and the options of 'OK' and 'Cancel'. On clicking cancel nothing happens (no surprises here) and on okay I get a message that 'Maintenance is Complete'. But nothing further happens adn if I try running setup the cycle starts agin. Is there any further advise you can offer? Regards Andy
quote:
Hi Andy, Go to the Start button, then choose Run.
