Post subject: CCC Bounty

Gentlemen,

BGen Sands has posted the basic informatrion on our new Bounty Program. Futher details can be found at the site itself -- http://www.counselman.net/Wargames/CCC/bounty.htm

It's been in place for awhile now in some of the ACWGC armies and has proven to be a quite popular feature. That being said, we all enjoy our wargaming in different ways and for different reasons. Please respect the rights of others to either participate or not as they see fit.

If there are any questions Gentlemen, I remain Your Obedient Servant.

Regards,

Ken,

This is a great idea. As a fellow AoJ officer in the ACWGC, I can attest that our Marksman's Badge is always hotly contested each month. This should be a lot of fun! [:)]

Gentlemen,

From the emails that I've received the response thus far to the Bounty Program has been quite positive. I've also gotten a few questions that I thought I'd answer in open forum:

When does it start ?
February 1st. Bounty periods will end the 25th of each month.

I have a leader kill that occurred in January. Is it eligible ?
No. Bounties must occurr in the period for which the bounty is claimed - in this case Feb 1st thu 25th.

My opponent doesn't want to participate, but I do. Can I ?
Yes. Participation is purely voluntary as we all enjoy the CCC for different reasons. When an enemy leader is killed or captured in a game it's up to the individual player whether or not he wishes file for a Bounty. One, both, or neither of the players in a game may choose to file.

I think that as long as folks are still playing the same and dont alter their style of play (hide officers in the woods, etc) then it is ok. If it means that folks would send suicide groups after the officer then it doesnt make sense.
Like Al I am not keen on the idea but if it is done in the NORMAL course of play I dont see a problem.
On leaders - I lost an entire division in my game with Ralf - I moved all of the leaders away from his units so as to avoid losing the VPs. They are loitering in the woods at this moment evading the dreaded Redcoats. If I still had a unit left out of that command I would not hesitate to move them back to that unit but he basically torched the entire command! Bravo Ralf. You still may lose the Brandywine battle but at least you have done something that noone else has done in that battle against me - survive with some of the Right Wing!

Good point Bill. I think most if not all players will just play their games normally. It really doesnt pay to "hide" your leaders as it will most likely take them out of effective command and rally range. As to changing your battleplan just to get a shot at a leader ... I should be so lucky as to find such an opponent [:p]

The other point I might add is that a successful leader kill for example, really doesn't guarantee you anything. It means that you have an entry and MIGHT garner and extra 2 club points - and remember that there is only (1) winning Kill-Bounty PER SIDE PER MONTH.

Whoopie.

Hardly worth deviating from a sound battle plan I'd say ...

Many, if not most, players will play the game as they always have. Anyone that plays for the sole purpose of "leader bounty" is not going to play a normal game and would probably lose the game, even if they get an officer or 2. The leader bounty is not intended to be historical; it is only a side contest.

The purpose of this bounty device is to add a little something to the contest, whether in 1776 or in 1812, not to make the game a bounty hunt nor to force the rifle effects rule. The rule (The optional rifles rule) is in place for specific scenarios, not for widespread use and not for the 1812 scenarios.

AND, if you do not like the bounty setup, do not play in a game that someone wants to use it.[;)][:0][:D]

(acting like a puzzled new officer) - are we saying then that we should use the Rifles Option and arm all of the British with Rifles!! [8D]

Er, ok, I missed that one. I think they mean we should NOT play with the Rifles rule ON but arm the British with rifles and no bayonets.

ER, OK, MISSED THAT ONE TOO! I think these club guys are saying we should play like normal and if someone wants to claim the BOUNTY go see Mr. Christian as he sunk the old lass off of Pitcarin Island years ago mates!

Play the Bounty if you like. I prefer the CONSTITUTION!!! More guns and better officers (than the ones the mutinied). Funny how all of the guys in the Bounty story more or less made very big history.

Mr. Christian founded his own island nation. Still in existence though the folks dont wear lace anymore and do not live in lovely estates.

Capt. Bligh performed a wonderful feat of navigation and leadership in sailing in a open boat all the way to the East Indies.

And the average sailorman got a better deal from his officers!

I say EVERY British regiment should MUTINY TOO!!

I LOVE this new rule. My world of humor just increased fourfold. Lets keep this Project (hint) towards the TOP Al.

I have not sailed on the Bounty or visited the Constitution Though I have a good friend who has done both. He proffered The Rose a very fine ship by all accounts. I think The old Ironsides has a lot in common with these new fangeled flying machine carriers very efficient weapons but a bit brick like to look at. When it comes to puting bounties on officers I am with Bill and Al it is fine in the ACW where the officers where mostly lawyers, politicians or both . But I think it out of place in this period. On the plus side however it should get me more opponents as my officers seem to get killed at a rate witch guarantees a continued healthy income from the sale of commissions

According to the rules of gentlemen warfare, me and the officers of my Regiment wont allow aimed shooting on enemy officers.

@Ken

Did you turn off the sound-file? It still doesn't work with me [8)]

One quick point, the "bounty" (no not the MUTINY kind) is being offerred with no intention to be historical or period correct. It is simply a fun thing to try.

Up with the Bounty program, down with taxes! Ok, go for it guys. I am sure that a few of my opponents will be saying, "Glad to have known you Bill, losing Washington to me was the best thing that ever happened to my career," or "I havent had as much fun galavanting all over the countryside in years!"
