The British Army in North America is a venerable institution with remarkable traditions and an outstanding military record. I have always been proud to serve as one of its offiers, and I am deeply honored by now being appointed as its commander. I promise to do everything I can to preserve its traditions and customs, to further the esprit de corps of the army as such and its individual corps, and to ensure it remains an enjoyable environment for all officers wearing the red coat of its regular regiments as well as the black, green or blue coats of its provincial and Hessian corps.

To all officers under my command I hereby extend my heartfelt thanks for the services they have rendered the army and the club. I ask them to support and to assist the high command in its efforts as best they can, for the mutual benefit of the entire army. The department commanders are especially requested to contact me at their earliest convenience with a report on the status of their command, together with any suggestions or ideas they may have.

To the outgoing CiC, Brigadier General Sir Ernie Sands, KCB, go my special thanks for everything he has done for this army during his tenure. [^]

Gentlemen, here is to the King - long may he reign.
