Gentlemen, His Majesty does me great honour, though Gen. Walter is suspected by many to have been suffering from a serious malady and fever when signing this commission. Nevertheless, I shall endeavour to fulfil the King's confidence in my service to Him within these colonies. We shall doubtless have to raise taxes somewhat to pay for the increased bar bills while I am in command, but I am confident that the colonists will mind this not a whit. In the meantime the centre column will be opening up a frontier language school for all Frenchmen from the Canadas desiring to learn fluent English. We intend to make the aquiring of this skill of the utmost importance to them in the future........ God save the King!! Your very humble servant Gentlemen, |
