I recently noticed in 1776 and FIW, that it's impossible to melee from bridges. A "units can not make move into attacking hex" popup happens if a unit in column in a bridge hex tries to melee an enemy unit in a road hex just off the bridge. Didn't that used to be the only way to get the job done in the game? Units can't melee enemy units on bridges either. This means the only way to take and clear bridges is by fire power, what am I missing and wasn't this possible at one time? Phil Natta |

Phil, I tested F&I War, 1776 and Wo1812 and all three will no longer allow units to melee coming off a bridge. This is a definite change, because I remember defending bridges at Plattsburg and losing melees to units coming across the bridges there. |

I'm glad to hear a confirmation, I thought I was going daft. [:0] It definitely has a negative impact on some scenarios where bridges are very important, hope it gets fixed soon. |

This is certainly a "bug" which needs looking at asap. I've just completed a drawn game against Cpl Cecil Burke at Plattsburg. Not being able to melee out of bridges/fords really negates the whole point of this scenario, and forces a somewhat pointless lining up of troops on either riverbank, who simply blast away ad nauseam for most of the game. Being used to the "old way", I lost several hundred good men by marching them over the southern ford and finding they were in effect trapped in the shallows at the other end, with no way of using their bayonets and unable to form into line. There are other scenarios where the same charge could be levelled. Fix please Mr. Tiller! |

Rich Hamilton has advised Mr. Tiller about the problem and a fix is in the works. Phil |
