Hard to believe, but I lately sometimes find myself short of turns to play. One of my opponents just left the club (if I read his somewhat cryptic note right that is [8)]) and for the first time in years I don't even have regular games with Al Amos! [:0]

Hence, the Grand Chief of the Redcoats hereby seeks a couple of Injuns, or Frogs, or Yankee Rebels, for any of the shorter 1776 campaigns, or a small to medium size scenario of 1776 or 1812 (Queenston or Lundy's preferred). One-phase turn of course, no RFE, no Optional Tables, no Quality Melee Modifiers, no Rout Limiting, I am easy on Corny Cannon. Opponents who adhere to a more historical style of play (regimental integrity, no commando raids, etc.) definitely preferred; in any case, column attacks [}:)] are out.

Any takers? [8)]

Sir,

I'll fight you on any field of 1776. If interested please send me a file. Your choice of scen and options. Will play as historical as possible.

Sir,

Are you still on for Queenston (sp?). If so then send me message and I'll give it a try.

Oh those elusive rebels ...

Karel, the e-mail address listed for you on the rebel army roster bounces. Please provide a good one.

Thanks, Ernie--at least this one did not bounce. And I also have contact with Cpl. Short, so I may have my two games. [8)]

Dierk;

Many months ago, after a fateful meeting at a place called Shiloh, I agreed to a game of Monmonth. Life called and I had to move on to other things, however, I never forgot the agreement. Though many may think me crazy, including myself [;)], as a gentleman, I'm ready to live up to my part of the agreement.

So, do you still have an opening?

Welcome back, Tim. [:)]

As I have turns from both takers, my dance card is now full for the moment. But as recent experiences show, that may change quickly. I would then contact you. [8)]

General,

I keep forgeting that I have a novice question. Could the General please explain what he means by "column attack," a tactic which he seems to think is the evil of the Evil One.[?]

Thank You

Jeff, I believe that armies at this time deployed in line before they went into combat. Columns for me represent not what later would come to be called the "column of attack" or "column by the center" but the road column, a formation suited for marching, but not fighting.

As companies in column have a vastly increased mobility compared to companies in line, they can easily be used for very aggressive outflanking maneuvers in any terrain that for me are not in keeping with the tactics of the period.

Follow up question for the General:

In FIW the Indians have been modified so that their special calling in life seems to be melee combat. This goes double for the Highlanders in the Cullodon scenarios. Indians and Highlanders: should they be permitted to charge in column and suffer whatever consequences there may be? I say send them in and "hack'em down."

Post subject:

Injuns of course ... they can't melee unless in column, at least not with any chance of success. Other rules are off for them as well ... I wouldn't demand regimental integrity from them. [;)]

Highlanders? Are they painted savages that fight only in disorganized hordes? [:p] Don't know they Culloden scenarios.

Re "hack 'em down", unfortunately with the ridiculously poor fire effectiveness in this game--unless with the alternate PDT--there are not really many disadvantages to attacking in column.

Dierk, Dierk, Dierk,

I'm giving you a chance to lose a game. Since I can't seem to beat you maybe someone else can if I don't monopolize your dance card. hehehe... [;)]

Once I get freed up (a couple of weeks) I'll hook up with you for a game. [:D]
