(Good thing is I don't even have to change my uniform to do this ... except for the rank insignia. [:D])

So, you have been fighting loyally for the crown in North America for years ... you have served your country well. But, are you not occasionally tired of always the same settings ... wayside ambushes, dense forests, tiny engagements with even tinier forces on the tiniest clearings ... no serious opposition, just disorganized painted savages, even more disorganized rebels in rags, even the occasional Frog just an almost starved to death provincial whose sole (and vain) desire is to get home to his village in the old country alive?

Don't you just once in a while long for the real thing ... the ultimate gamble, the big battle that within one day decides the fate of a nation, nay of Europe? The supreme pageantry of great armies arranged in the open, tens or hundreds of thousands strong, the bright colours of the uniforms, music and banners, the splendid heavy cavalry ready to charge, the big batteries of 12-pounders? Don't you want to find out how it feels to face a really dangerous foe, the Grand Army of the Corsican Ogre that already crushed most of Europe's great powers, Britain alone excluded, at least once?

Well, come on then and join the British Army in the Napoleonic Wargaming Club ... you get the chance to command our own forces at Waterloo and Quatre Bras, the Prussians at Ligny, the Austrians in the campaign of 1809, the Russians in the campaign of 1812. You have the opportunity of becoming a member of the most élite, best-clad, and heaviest drinking army in the entire club ... don't hesitate--enlist at once!

Capt. Walter,

your British Army must be dire and desperate conditions to be recruiting in the wilderness of Northern America ! Are your men all deserting or getting killed at a fast rate ?

Pay might be good - if it ever reaches the soldiers and your oficers don't confiscate it to pay for the men's lost or damaged equipment.

Drinks might be plentyful - if it's not stretched with water and other liquidities.

Too much discipline and not enough loot for the warriors of the Seneca nation.

Normally I fight for the crown, but by some great coincidence I was given a free trip to India to help solve French problems, and the wine was much better than the Firewater I keep getting. The pay isn't as good, but I kind of like the way the French dress, kinda poofish, but better than always in some starched Uniform with a neck stock that will choke even the fittest of the King's men. As long as they keep the guillotine away from my scalp, I am sticking with the Frogs during these times. [:0]

Likewise, if you have enjoyed killing redcoats here in the Americas, are willing to fight to preserve liberte, fraternite & egalite (I am almost positive that those were all misspelled and definately missing an accent or 3), come join the fight against "perfidious Albion".

Pay is not bad, advancement reasonably swift, and food and wine excellent. Billets along the Rhin are quite pleasant with ample Bavarian Bier and ready access to the pleasures of Alsace. Tours of Russia, Bavaria and Austria are available.

I'm certainly not intending to rain on this fine enlistment opportunity, but how about equal time for the CCC with a call to serve Parliament/Congress/War Council/Monarch in America over at the NWC?

The following "anti-perks" could be noted there for example:

Tired of scrolling over huge sprawling maps that take up 36+ screens [8], befuddled by many hundreds of units to move each turn [|)], perplexed by an unwieldy chain-of-command that would rival our own current government? [?] And how about those dozens of individual house rules that will confuse and mire down play and be the cause of much bickering and constant internal strife? [V]

I was enlisted in the the NWC in another life, and got dizzy with all the concerns about "proper" skirmisher use, "acceptable" artillery use, "logical" cavalry use, and what seemed like a bazillion house rule suggestions/demands that very few players could agree on, and they're still debating them and tacking on more as we speak. I enjoyed my stay while there, and the NCW is every bit as good and worthwhile as the CCC and I'm glad they're there, but the sheer scope of things in general brought me back to a simpler and more straight forward time here in the King's colonies. (I sheepishly admit accenting some (IMO) negatives here rather than listing the many obvious joys of the CCC, which I know Dierk could do just as eloguently there as he did here for the NWC.)

So...this is not a knock against this recruiting post or the NWC or it's set of games. I simply make a plea for equal time, with somewhat tongue-in-cheek suggested reasons. [:p]

Very nicely worded Sir, and tacked to the biggest tree in the town square. Failing that, my press gangs always complain of boredom, and the old bludgeons and cats are not showing enough signs of wear by Jove! [}:)]

Well, if we are all putting in our $.02 worth, let us not forget the Army of our Dearly Beloved Kaiser Franz!
