Ain't a bit tough to fight for the glory of your king in a war where he was not a participant (most of the time)? [;)] |

If I was really offended I would ask for reparation[xx(]. But you are just an Englishman so no offense[:D]. It is your point of view but the French did really participate in this war of liberation:
quote:
On the advice of his foreign minister, the Comte de Vergennes, King Louis approved a large expenditure for the purchase of weapons for the colonists in 1776. In 1777, after it became evident that Britain would be going to war with America, the French sent even more money, weapons, and ammunition to America. This was done rather quietly, for France did not yet wish to publicly side with the colonists if it looked as though the rebellion would be crushed quickly. But after the Battle of Saratoga in October 1777, which the Americans won, France decided it would officially side with America. In a letter to the United States Congress, King Louis addressed them as, "our very dear, great friends the President and Members of the General Congress of North America". This marked France's official recognition of the United States of America as an independent, sovereign nation. Then, in late 1777, Vergennes met with three Americans-Benjamin Franklin, Arthur Lee, and Silas Deane-to negotiate an official treaty of alliance between the two nations. The terms of the treaty were that France would recognize and support the sovereignty and independence of the United States of America. In return the United States and France would ally and function as one military unit should war break out between France and Britain. The United States also promised to defend the French West Indies forever. The French continued to send aid to America in the form of money, men, and munitions.

Isn't it hard to fight for the wrong side?[:o)] |
