Sirs, I have just re did the Department based on the OOB that our commander of the Army has sent to me. Please check out the info to include your HQ's location. Any Flags you may want to represent your unit, please send me a pic and I will post it. We may have been reduced in size a little but what is there is more than a match for the savage Indians [}:)], the Frilly Frenchmen [8], and last but not least those powdered wig types, the ones that still think that blubery German upstart is the one to lead them [:(][xx(]. |

Nope...the phrase is burned and etched in my memory forever. The best and the <b>original</b> version was definately "that fat wannabe usurper", which always makes me chuckle. [:D] But I'm positive Tony means absolutely no insult to any Germans or Europeans. Like many things we banter about here, it's all in fun and jest, of that I'm certain. I think he mainly wants to point out that the King of Britain was not even British. And honestly, I always thought that a tad odd myself. [8)] Phil |

Well, the times were different ... there were no nations. Loyalties were of a different kind. The fact His Britannic Majesty was of German ancestry (not German mind you) was not considered in any way unusual. The King of Sweden (yes, the famous Charles XII who perished at Poltava) was Bavarian ... the Czar was from Northern Germany ... so was the King of Denmark ... the King of Spain was from France ... the King of Hungary was an Austrian ... Ireland was ruled by the British ... Norway by the Danish ... Finland by the Swedish ... the King of England was at the same time the Elector of Hanover and had a claim to the French throne ... the King of Poland was even elected among nobles from all over Europe. Same story in the 19th century ... Spain, Romania, Greece, Belgium, and a lot others all elect themselves German princes as Kings (there seems to have been an abundance [;)]). Not to forget an emperor of Mexico from Austrian stock ... Different times, as I said. [8D] |

As Phil, pointed out it is all in fun and banter [;)] I thought I would chance it a bit [;)] The Kings and Queens from the old countries are something,when you try and trace where they come from/family roots. As for Ole King George III, At least he might be more British than Dad or Grandpa [}:)] |
